YESTERDAYS NEWS AND NOTHIN’ IS NEW ..  death for insulting Islam

I guess we’re all sort of bored with this ... been hearing these things for how long now?
Well, I kinda think we should keep this sort of thing in the foreground.

I doubt he’ll be executed tho and it’s to be hoped he won’t.

  1. Such a democracy: they got to choose between Islam and Islam. Caveat Emptor! Stupidest thing Bush ever did was letting Afghanistan and Iraq even mention Islam in their new constitutions. If they can’t move beyond letting their religion rule their country then there’s very little hope for them.

Hard to believe that any muslim woman would want four husbands when even one sounds bad enough.

  2. Yeah, but that’s the problem at the root of it all: The right to believe, the right to doubt and the right to be a fool are all the same right. You can’t curtail any of em without curtailing the other two precisely as much.

  3. Exactly Grumpy,

Allow me to quote some Mormon scripture:

    Alma 30:7

“Now there was no law against a man’s belief; for it was strictly contrary to the commandments of God that there should be a law which should bring men on to unequal grounds.” (Book of Mormon, Alma 30:7)

There’s more… read Alma 30: 8-11. Guess my point is to compare Islam and Mormonism. Romney gets hammered on religion, a religion that champions religious freedom. Alma 30:7 is a very important and binding scripture in Mormonism. As an (inactive) Mormon, I grant you your right to believe… however, if you act on those beliefs… you may be at fault.

Islamists are at fault. The Koran does not give them authority to pass death sentences for mere belief. May have given Mohammed that right, but not his ‘successors’.

Gotta go, that Koran I tried to flush stopped up my toilet.

  4. Yeah, I think those who are worried about Romney because he’s a Mormon are just showing that they don’t know any Mormons. I’m not one, but I lived in Salt Lake City for 4 years as a kid. They’re like Jews in that they tend to be very supportive of one another. They tend to be unlike nearly any other religion in history in that the majority of them seem to really try hard to live by all the precepts of their religion, every moment of every day. Makes em scary in the same way Ahmish are scary, I guess. Gives you that edgy feeling of being around fanatics.
But considering those precepts seem to basically boil down to, “Be really good to yourselves, your families, and each other. Even be good to the gentiles, although you don’t HAVE to be *as* good to them as you are to each other”, it’s hard to see what worries everyone so much.
