Why do people have such a hard time figuring out what “rights” and “infringed” mean?
Indeed. Should have been 9-0. These people swore, as the top legal officials in America, to support defend, apply, etc, the CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES AS THEIR GUIDING PRINCIPAL AND PRIMARY RULE. How hard is it to read the plain text? How hard is it to understand “the right of the people shall not be infringed”? Do they ride in to work on the short bus? We have one that drives, three others that take care of the drooling idiots in the back, and one of them has the “I have an apple today! I’ll vote yes!” attitude.
DC needs to address the real reason(s)they feel the need to be so restrictive on firearms.
they aren’t getting my guns!!!!like they said on the radio the other day...if you show up at my door you better have a pizza or a subpoena!!!!!!!!!! semper fi!
Item One: The First Ten Amendments to the U. S. Constitution - collectively known as “The Bill of Rights” - were introduced and added to the Constitution en masse. To artificially sift out the Second Amendment from this group is either very ignorant or intentionally dismissive of the facts. If the First, Third, Fourth, Fifth, Sixth, Seventh, Eighth, Ninth and Tenth Amendendments all pertain to individuals, how could anyone seriously argue the Second does not?
Item Two: The Miller decision in commenting on ‘appropriate’ weapons, said a sawed off shotgun was not an appropriate militia weapon. If the liberals are going to rely on the ‘appropriateness clause’ of the Miller decision, they are arguing to remove all restrictions on fully automatic weapons - since fully automatic weapons are those commonly used in a militia setting.
Item Three: The term ‘militia’ at the time of the writing of the Constitution refered to just about every free person in the United States. (The entire able-bodied male population of a community, town, county, or state, available to be called to arms.) In today’s climate, one should include women as well. Since slavery has been abolished, the qualifying word ‘free’ is immaterial as well. Just as a side note, local politicians were not considered in this, as they were already engaged in community service. So everyone can own a machinegun except for the politicians. I love it!
Item Four: As mentioned, all Federal judges - especially Supreme Court Justices - are going to be very important in the follow to this decision. We have to have Judges who believe in and uphold the Constitution. We - this nation - cannot trust Senator Obama to appoint Constitutional Judges. If you vote for anyone other than Senator McCain - or do not vote at all - you are assisting in the destruction of your Constitutional rights. End of discussion.
Single stack, you asked why some have a hard time with the concepts of ‘rights’ and ‘infringed’.
The answer is very simple: Liberals do not feel bound by the Constitution, they only feel obligated to obey their own ‘feelings’ and the cause of liberalism. Nothing - NOTHING - else matters.
Archie—ABSOLUTELY!!!
My wife had the epiphany the other night that liberals simply do not understand logic. Thus you can never actually argue with one, and the “debates” on TV are nothing more than opportunities for them to reutter canned position statements. There is NO actual debate involved. No, they base their ideas on feeeewwwings, that’s all. That’s why they have the “living Constitition” viewpoint, which seems to be based on the classic paragraph from Alice In Wonderland:
“When I use a word,” Humpty Dumpty said, in a rather scornful tone, “it means just what I choose it to mean - neither more nor less.”
“The question is,” said Alice, “whether you can make words mean so many different things.”
“The question is,” said Humpty Dumpty, “which is to be master - that’s all.”
The Miller decision was about a sawed off shotgun. In terms of its use in a combat situation, the closest current analogue to the sawed off shotgun would be either a) “Thumper”, the M79 40mm grenade launcher, which in fact looks a lot like a sawed off shotgun, or b) a small field cannon. Keep in mind also that when the Bill of Rights was passed, private citizens DID own field pieces. True, in 1939 the *regular army* did not use shotguns. Nowadays they do. But if it actually connected to what was being used by armies, machine guns should not have been made illegal in 1942, as the Thompson was the standard submachinegun of the US Army at the time.
In all honesty, I don’t think the actual *guns* are what the government and the left fear. What they *actually* fear is the ghost of Andrew Jackson.
I have lots to say about this but
1)I don’t think that voting for McAmnesty is the answer. He is not a conservative in the majority of his decisions/votes and therefore voting for him will a) be against my values, beliefs and conscience, b) allowing the RNC and GOP to continue their steady pace to the liberal side of the aisle - which is where these liberal judges are coming from - and things in America will get worse not better and c) given his past record - I don’t believe that McAmnesty will put in a strict Constitutionalist and/or conservative judge - since he seems to be more than willing to ‘deal’ with the liberals to find what is acceptable to them.
2) We The People by accepting Obamanation and McAmnesty who are cheap imitations of what is necessary and desirable for the POTUS and certainly not representative of the majority of their respective parties are part of the problem - we have let the DNC, RNC and media select the candidates and are getting what ‘we’ deserve - for settling and believing that there is ‘no fighting city hall’. We also let the msm, DNC and RNC treat the other political parties as the bastard step children of politics and thusly are part and parcel with the corruption of the political system - and the definitions of democracy, republic, freedom of speech and rights of the voter.
3) This does not only include the Supreme Court barely passing a 2nd Amendment support - but denying States Rights the previous day by ignoring the LA law to negate the Death Penalty for heinous crimes, by the CA Supreme Court denying the vote of the majority of voting citizens of the state by making activist gay agenda more important than what the voters decided and the same with Amnesty - multiple times in the past (so-called) laws were passed to ‘stop’ illegal immigration but they are not enforced. The FDA is being paid off and pressured to ‘approve’ drugs - left, right and center - despite failure to prove safety or even effectiveness. And so on and so on - once again - we are getting the government we ‘deserve’ - as too many can’t be bothered to say No - Enough. And put a stop to it.
And the end result is that the America will collapse into a socialist mess - with a revolt necessary to bring back sanity or an armed revolt will stop it as it teeters on the brink.
Yes - with the stupid and un-Constitutional Gitmo/rights decision - President Bush should have pulled an Andrew Jackson - maybe then the real ‘change’ needed to save America could have started. I had high hopes for President Bush, he did what needed to be done and then he started backing off, down and giving in. Such a shame - he is becoming part of the problem.
And McAmnesty and Obamanation are not part of the solution at all.
He’s the best chance we’ve got. We KNOW we’re screwed if the Obamessiah gets in.
WardMama, Senator McCain wasn’t my first choice. I think he comes in about four or five, in fact.
However, right now, the only alternative is Senator Obama.
We could wish for better candidates and better men all around. But we are going to have either Senator McCain or Senator Obama as Presdent. No one else, not Ron Paul or Bob Barr or Mike Huckabee or Ralph Nader or Harold Stasson or Gus Hall is going to be elected.
Senator Obama has made his positions very clear over time. He thinks Ruth Bader Ginsburg is an exemplary Supreme Court Justice. He thinks the gun laws of Illinois and Chicago are ‘reasonable’. He thinks taxes and gas prices should be high. And he thinks Islamofascism can be deterred by simply buying them a Coke and giving them his wonderful smile.
I agree, Senator McCain is not exciting. But if you don’t vote for him, you are getting Senator Obama elected. That’s the ugly and sad truth of all this.
Indeed Archie, (sigh)indeed.
Archie,
Ruth Bader G could scare a hundred hungry wolves off a fully loaded meat truck by simply being there with that face!!!! VERY SCARY
