  1. Thought Texas rated higher than Canada!

Cool.  I’ll be using this in my 9th-grade World Geography class.

  2. I LIKE being on top of the food chain!

  3. I wonder which state Mexico would have mapped to if their citizens were actually in Mexico instead of here? At least having them here we get the GDP numbers up.

Between this map and the 2nd map that covers China, UK, Germany, and Japan this covers a big chunk of of the world. I guess you could do a US city = smaller country map if needed too. Yes MAJ, use this map ... have the kids make up the map I mentioned if city data is available, then have them calculate how many “Americas” there are in the world. 4? 5? That should give them some patriotic perspective.

  4. Yes, yes - we are the evil doers of the World subjecting our poor, oppressed population to the horrors of abject poverty, starvation and being forced to steal plasma tvs to survive hurricanes (thank God, the Hurricane Heros lost yesterday). . .

Maj Mike - add to that Bobby Kennedy’s words on the GDP -

Too much and too long, we seem to have surrendered community excellence and community values in the mere accumulation of material things. Our gross national product...if we should judge American by that - counts air pollution and cigarette advertising, and ambulances to clear our highways of carnage. It counts special locks for our doors and the jails for those who break them. It counts the destruction of our redwoods and the loss of our natural wonder in chaotic sprawl. It counts napalm and the cost of a nuclear warhead, and armored cars for police who fight riots in our streets. It counts Whitman’s rifle and Speck’s knife, and the television programs which glorify violence in order to sell toys to our children.

Yet the gross national product does not allow for the health of our children, the quality of their education, or the joy of their play. It does not include the beauty of our poetry or the strength of our marriages; the intelligence of our public debate or the integrity of our public officials. It measures neither our wit nor our courage; neither our wisdom nor our learning; neither our compassion nor our devotion to our country; it measures everything, in short, except that which makes life worthwhile. And it tells us everything about America except why we are proud that we are Americans. 03/18/68

The second paragraph alone makes more sense than any speech given by any dem in the past 6 years. It is a shame he was killed and Teddy has survived to sully politics in America.

  5. I think it’s something that Saudi Arabia compares to tennessee in GDP.. I would think it would be closer to Texas, Florida or California

  6. Now, lets see a map which compares states to countries with the defining factor being US aid.

Maybe West Virginia with the Palestinians?????

  7. Wardmama,

I’d say RFK’s 1st paragraph is just about a definition of how a leftist would see things; all the bad bits and only them. I had to go and look up Whitman (the gunman in the Texas Tower shootings) and Speck (a serial killer who murdered nearly a dozen women). This is some seriously negative stuff.

Yes, the 2nd para is the important one; the hopes, joys, dreams, and enjoyment that generally comes from appreciating all the unspoken positive aspects of the things he itemized in the 1st para. Could we have the 2nd without the things that cause the 1st?

Armadefoc - get to work! That would be a very interesting map. Don’t be too amazed if you find lots of countries that get more than any state does ... but I just don’t know. It could be the other way ‘round; maybe all the zillions we give away are peanuts in the overall scheme of things. First off you’d have to map which states are net exporters (tax money to DC) and which are importers. And decide if tax support for businesses and colleges in a state counts as part of the total pork pie.

  8. Drew/Armadefoc - the tax vs bennies stats were done. I remember it just before some major event (2004 election, OIF start) something, a liberal was using the stats to claim that the ‘great and caring’ elite and left coast support the mindless inbred trailer trash in the middle. Sadly, he was so stupid he could not even read his stats that showed - the majority of the taxes come from the mid section of the US and the majority of the bennies go to the elite coast and CA. I wish I could remember where I ran across that - although I do remember his stupidity gave me great joy for a long time.

I am not against paying taxes, nor am I against Foreign Aid - just stop using my money to enable people to sit on their asses and do nothing but complain nor give it in exchange for selling out your own country. Stop funding buracracies and start funding real improvements in education, healthcare and housing. Stop allowing drug dealers, criminals and illegal immigrants to get away with destroying America from within while wasting millions to ‘convict’ innocent administration officials, conservatives and white college boys based on nothing but personal bds, lies and a template set up by racist pc whinners.

Another interesting map would be taxes (income & property) paid or not paid VS how are their state ‘social’ issues/bennifits faring?

  9. Wardmama

If your recommendations were implemented - the left would lose its base. Can you imagine the Kennedys, Pelosis, Leahys and other extremely rich leftists having to campaign without the promise of giving away other people’s money?

Look at how Ahnald has been “reeducated” by the Kennedy clan.  Here is a guy who has worked hard, overcome incredible odds and has earned every penny he has.  A couple of years with the Kennedys and all of a sudden he is in favor of giving away other people’s money?

You can bet that Maria has the Ahnald fortune safely socked away off shore ala the rest of the Kennedys.
