  1. Unfortunately it will be dark here when he lands, otherwise I could look out of my window and watch him come in!

  2. You might get to see him anyway, LyndonB. Steve picked up a strong tailwind over the Atlantic. Landing has been moved up to 5:00pm (GMT). Keep your eyes peeled.

  3. A strong tailwind, is it?

    That’s just Fatboy, or maybe the Screeming Meemie, facing west.

    wink

  4. Skipper I like the way you use GMT, unlike the website where they quote “UTC” a sop to the french for “Universal Time Constant” or some such nonsense. They have never been happy with the meridian at Greenwich. No doubt if Old Boney had won at Waterloo the line of meridian would have been fixed at Paris!

    Anyway I will keep an eye open. I might even have a wander up the road but I expect there will be quite a crowd by the time he gets there.

  5. I like the use of the term GMT myself.  WWV says “CUT” (coordinated universal time) in its time signals these days, and I never did like that.

    Cat, you’re not too far from Fort Collins and WWV, are you?

  6. Update II: Generator problem at the last minute. Steve declares MAYDAY. Plane diverted to Bournemouth. Steve safely on the ground at 5:12pm (GMT). Congatulations!

  10. A brief tribute to the BMEWS FlyBoys:

    Into the air, junior birdmen
    Into the air, boy scouts too;
    Into the air, junior birdmen
    With your shiny wings of tin;
    You too can be a junior birdman
    If you send your boxtops in!
