Why Obama removed the bust of Sir Winston Churchill

  1. I don’t have a problem with him removing it, but returning what was probably a gift to the President from a foreign country? That’s a flat statement that the tastes and opinions of any Presidents that come after him don’t matter. I can see it if it’s a gift to Barack Obama. If it’s a gift to the President, or to the United States from a foreign power, he doesn’t have the right to give it away. No more than he has the right to give away the Statue of Liberty.

  2. Actually, Tony Blair apparently loaned it at the beginning of the Bush Administration. The loan was indeed extended to the Obama Administration. Obama refused, therefore slighting one of our staunch allies.

A bust of the former prime minister once voted the greatest Briton in history, which was loaned to George W Bush from the Government’s art collection after the September 11 attacks, has now been formally handed back.

The bronze by Sir Jacob Epstein, worth hundreds of thousands of pounds if it were ever sold on the open market, enjoyed pride of place in the Oval Office during President Bush’s tenure.

But when British officials offered to let Mr Obama to hang onto the bust for a further four years, the White House said: “Thanks, but no thanks.”

  3. For Obama being in the presence of true greatness must be like a vampire being exposed to full sunlight. Be it Churchill or Limbuagh the illumination makes Obamas skin turn crispy and his eyes melt.

  5. Say what you want about President Bush. And I’m a frequent critic of his domestic policies, like spending and amnesty.

But I do give him credit for one thing: He understood and respected the office of the President. Coat and tie were required in the Oval Office. No actual word on thongs for interns, but I’ve yet to hear of any such Clintonite scandals. And the loan from Prime Minister Tony Blair enjoyed ‘pride of place’ during the Bush Administration.

Just goes to show, Obama has no sense of history, no pride in country, and no shame. He’s just an Alinsky ACORN thug.

Egads, I thought Carter and Clinton were dumb. Now Obama! Is there competition in the Demonctratic Party to be stupider than the last Demoncratic Administration?

  6. I still think GWB will eventually get the plaudits he deserves for recognising the threat to the world from the islamists. BHO on the other hand will be vying with Carter for the most despised President in history.

BTW I read an article recently were Churchill’s grandson Nicholas Soames had Tony Blair cornered in the corridors of the House of Commons and was explaining something to Bliar in rather forceful terms about loyalty to the army. Soames is a big lad, not the kind of chap to be messed with. I would love to have a picture of that weaselly shyster Blair with Soames getting in his face so to speak.

  7. The sell out and intentional destruction of our country begins.  The Anglo American alliance has been one of the most powerful factors in the world since the 1930’s.  He’s creating distance from our traditional and perhaps strongest ally.  He’s kissing up to the the Mullahs of Iran and other pieces of sewer scum.  The Mullahs are our enemies and the enemies of our friends.

Bush knew it.  Tony Blair for all his faults knew it and respected it.  Sir Winston Churchill is almost as iconic here in America as he is in Britain.  He is pretty much the symbol of a people who would not give up no matter how hard they were pounded by the Germans.  Maybe it’s that resolute character that Obama doesn’t like.  It fits my picture of Obama.

A British Embassy spokesman said: “The bust of Sir Winston Churchill by Sir Jacob Epstein was uniquely lent to a foreign head of state, President George W Bush, from the Government Art Collection in the wake of 9/11 as a signal of the strong transatlantic relationship.

So here we have the spurning of a particular symbol.  A symbol of resolute courage and a symbol of the bond between two countries.  Obama has now dumped both.  I thought he’d sell us out.  I just didn’t think he’d do it so quickly or so blatantly.
Barak Hussein Obama, this one’s for you!  mooning

  8. Could it be that this was why Obama removed the Bust of Winston Churchill?

“Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery.” - Winston Churchill
