Why Has This Not Been Asked?

  1. A lot of folks back in the last days of the draft found ways not to serve, just like everybody doesn’t sign up for the all volunteer military today.

Personally I don’t care as long as they weren’t bearing arms against the US. I’d appreciate a little honesty and less spin on the military records.

But hey Clinton was a self proclaimed draft dodger and got elected twice, you’d think at this point it’s a non issue.

Then you live by the sword, die by the sword and the Donks have made it an issue. So yea I’d like to know the answer even if it is “by the time I got done with school there wasn’t a draft anymore”.

Some self serving promotion here but I have a piece on Kerry’s military record on my Blog at

  2. I just searched around for any information about his service and basically it sounds like by the time he was 18 the draft was winding down.  Nobody so far has verified that he actually signed up for the lottery as is required for those born in 1953, but evidentally he didn’t “have to serve” because the “draft was winding down”.  But of course we’ll NEVER see any deal made of it - big or otherwise from our ever-loyal and truthful national media.

Even if it comes to light that Edwards is a draft-dodging, wife beating, heroin-addicted, former child prostitute...the news media will NEVER report it. It’s enough to give one a migraine sometimes.

    /end rant

  3. He most likely had a college deferment, like thousands of others did during that time.  The only ones who get questioned and ridiculed are those that joined the National Guard like GW and Dan Quail, men who served their nation in its armed forces, just not active duty.  Hell, I would rather do active duty service than Guard any day.  Active duty folks can only be deployed by the president.  Those in the guard can not only be called up by the president but also by their respective state governors.  They have used guardsmen from everything from prison guards (Attica) to picking up garbage during strikes.  Without the Guard and Reserves our military would be a hollow force.

Evading military service all together like Edwards and Bill Clinton makes you a hero to the democratic party.  You know how them military hating liberals must be biting their tongues when they tout Kerry’s service.  But then, Kerry redeamed himself to them, sort of, when he turned on the military and labled them war criminals.

  4. RWR:  sorry but when he was 18 I was 19.  I GOT A DRAFT NUMBER!!!!  It was not even close to those they were calling up but I went into the service anyway.

And, Bob, if he DID get a deferment, why haven’t we heard about it?

  5. You probably won’t hear nothing about a deferment in the major news media.  How could you when they are touting Kerry’s Vietnam service?  To say his running mate got a deferment wouldn’t look good.  He could have just went to college and took his chances on getting a high number.  But like you said, why haven’t we heard anything?

  6. I was born in 1950, got a draft number in 1968.  I was 1-D (ROTC cadet) from 1968 through 1970.  Was 1-A with a draft lottery number in the 200’s during the year of 1970.  My number wasn’t pulled, I wasn’t drafted and I continued with my efforts to attain a B.A. in History and political Science (double-major).

Perhaps Edwards had a high draft number.  Most Vietnam Vets I know tell me I was fortunate not to have been in the rice paddies with them.

Clinton was a draft dodger (big time), and the Donks spent 8 years telling us military service didn’t matter and resistance to military service was a Badge of Honor.

Now, all of a sudden, military service is a big deal.  Kerry dumped his Band of Brothers as soon as he could accumulate enough Band-Aides to scoot out of Vietnam.  Few would blame him if he didn’t make such a big deal out it and play upon his record—but now he’s bigger than Audie Murphy!!

I spent 24 years in the Texas Army National Guard, mostly preparing to fight the Warsaw Pact.  Wasn’t called to active duty, but I was there while Kerry and the Donks did everything they could to cut our budgets, reduce our readiness, and insult the service of every Guardsman.

Bush was a certified fighter-interceptor pilot.  The supersonic F-102 had a habit of exploding in flight without warning.  Bush volunteered for a pilots-to-Vietnam program, but was bypassed by more senior personnel.  The Donks to the contrary, Bush completed his service as required.

Gore was trained to peck at a typewriter and flunked out of divinity school after an early release from military service (comments on that?).  Kerry bugged out of Vietnam after 3 months and 3 superficial “wounds”—so much for his loyalty to his Band of Brothers (whom he ignored until he decided to run for President).

Lets check the records and make our decisions.

  7. A proud product of public schools, John became the first person in his family to attend college. He worked his way through North Carolina State University where he graduated with high honors in 1974, and then earned a law degree with honors in 1977 from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

That’s from his campaign bio. Education deferrment?

  8. Buzz Patterson’s new book reveals that Kerry applied to avoid the draft by going to France to study for 12 months.  His request to escape the draft was denied.  He ‘volunteered’ for an off shore survey ship tour with the Navy to avoid the general draft.

The off shore survey ship was not supposed to see much action, but Kerry was transferred to the swift boat detail, much to his chagrin.  On December 1, 1968, he began serving as the swift boat officer with a crew of two.  On December 2, 1968, he was hit in the arm with a ricochet fragment of mortar that he fired too close to shore rocks.  His second day on the swift boat, he put himself in for a purple heart.

The treatment was bacitracin and a band-aid.  His request for the purple heart was denied because the boat had not been fired upon according to the crew and Kerry’s first version of the event.  His commanding officer eventually made a deal with Kerry to transfer him to another boat in exchange for a purple heart.  His crew of two was delighted and his CO was rid of him.  The story gets worse.  And worse.  It is a good read if you like horror stories.

    TRIVIAL PURSUIT.................

How about exploring the implications of the mole on
    Edward’s left lip??????????

I think it would be more appropriate to explore why Cheney
has his lip curled all the time!

    Continue to pursue...............
