  2. A bit of quick research shows that polonium is pretty easy to make or extract if you have a well developed nuclear program. It does seem rather excessive as an assassin’s tool, what with all the weapons and poisons out there, unless your goal is to cause several weeks of incurable intense suffering.

Putin ... scratch a commie and you’ll find a thug underneath. Russia may not be officially communist anymore, but they aren’t a friend and they aren’t an ally. Russia, China, NorK, and the islamofascist states. All have major links to organized crime, drug lords, and bloodthirsty tinpot dictators. That’s the real axis of evil.

  3. I like the bit on “quick research” Drew, you mean a whole day grin and if you scratched the Chelsea owner you would find he was eating at the right places. where is that Jimmy neutron glowing Londoner smiley when you need it?

  4. I was really hoping this guy would pull through.
I wanted to see what they could uncover on Putin.
I remember the ricin poisoning ...
SO, another outspoken ex-russian dies, Putin sends air defense systems to Iran....
    Anyone smelling a rat here?
Russia is no friend. Drew, you are right. The real axis of evil.

  5. So who in the World has a problem with someone 9 years out of the KGB ordering a hit on a guy? Really are some people so misguided to think that just because he is now President - a what, 16+ year career with the KGB doesn’t come with ‘connections’ and ‘baggage’ once you ‘ascend’ to the Presidency? There is a reason you won’t see a Gotti as President here (although some of Congress critters are awfully close).

The KGB needs to take a lesson from the Brits - they use to (don’t know if they still are into it) kill ruthlessly but quickly and quietly. But then Russia has always used a heavy hand.

It definately would have been interesting to see what would have happened if he had lived - but such is the international game of protection. Keeping secrets has always been Russia’s way, guess they are looking backward too fondly. The next revolution should be awful, weapons have come so far since the turn of the last century.

  6. Sorry BD, it was only a couple of minutes. We have decent internet over here, unlike your 1200 baud dial-up. grin

I don’t see your point about the Chelsea connection.  I read that traces of polonium were found at the Itsu sushi restaurant and the Millennium Hotel, where this guy had been. I guess they’re in Chelsea? Also some trace was found in his London home. So perhaps the hit was put on him 3 times just to make sure, or the stuff was on his clothes and somehow brushing off, or polonium is just so damn radioactive that anywhere he sat still for a little while would become irradiated just from him being there.  I’d guess the 3rd idea would be most accurate.

  7. Drew. Bulldog as far as I know is a Chelsea (soccer team) supporter. They were once a mediocre, middle of the table team. However a Russian gangster. Oh sorry I meant to say “businessman” who got rich through dodgy oil deals, has now pumped millions of pounds into the team. Since then they have been the top team in England for the last couple of years.

As for the Ruskies. Since they are net exporters of oil and particularly gas. The EU has become dependant on them as have other countries like Ukraine, Georgia etc. The Ruskies have no qualms about switching off the gas and other forms of blackmail so the EU is scared to criticise them.

I note Litvinenko was a former “asylum seeker” For a person who presumably fled Russia with just the clothes on his back he had a rather nice place in North London. A two bedroom apartment in Muswell Hill costs £350,000 or $650,000 those KGB pensions must be better than I thought!
