White People Are Mutants?

 

1. All humans are mutants of some kind or another (hell, check my classroom some time).

   I thought WWII put an end to that racial purity bullshit.  Now it seems that the racists have switched skin color from Aryan white to African black/tan/coffee/etc.

2. That’s the way I heard it long ago—white skin is a later adaptation to sunless northern climate.  It doesn’t take a geneticist to figure out that humans didn’t start out in freeze-your-ass places.  Without fire? No way.

3. Based on the logic of genetics and natural selection, one might say that “white” folk are an “evolution” from an original design and not a aberrant “mutation”.

   I’m not necessarily going to proclaim that as the “truth,” but I think it makes an equally valid counter-argument.

4. MUTATION

   A change of the DNA sequence within a gene or chromosome of an organism resulting in the creation of a new character or trait not found in the parental type. The process by which such a change occurs in a chromosome, either through an alteration in the nucleotide sequence of the DNA coding for a gene or through a change in the physical arrangement of a chromosome.

   It is true that in non-scientific language it has come to mean something grotesque & screwed up.

5. HOw do they “KNOW” that the darker SLC24A5 isn’t a “mutation” of the “normal” which produces the lighter color?

6. Normal is a loaded word, and is only used once, and that by the reporter. The scientists say “by default”. But, I’ll betcha when the first humans moved out of Africa they were not white skinned.  Other than scientific curiosity, I don’t give a crap.
