What should we do?

  1. HELL no. Even if he is a dirtbag marine, he is a MARINE. Let him deal with his peers. His unit. They would know best.

Just return him to the barracjs, and tell his unit to “fix” it. No questions asked.

  2. Er… barracKs… damned J-s… must be a right wing conspiracy…

  3. Um, we have him:

  4. If this Marine set all this up he should be treated accordingly, not only as a deserter but as a traitor also. We won’t know until we can get some light of truth on what went down, the media has been a disgrace in the way it mishandled and distorted what facts they had. If the Cpl. pulled off a scam and thinks he is free from retribution, let him rot in a Marine Corps brig before execution. Meanwhile it’s not been officially announced that he’s even alive.

  5. That all depends.  If he deserted because he opposes the war and Bush’s wholesale slaughter of innocents, then he should get a medal.  After all, it takes alot of bravery to walk away from a fight knowing that people will brand you a coward and toss you in the hoosegow.

However, if we find that he was in collusion with the terrorists, then we should not only give him a medal, but have him do all the morning talk shows, make about six TV movies based on his life and run him for Senate (D).

  6. Fuck you, Liberal Larry.  Fuck you with a rusty nail.

  7. I did not say that last part.  I screwed up in the blockquoting, just so you know.

  8. Before anyone puts one more nail in the gallows to hang him, wait for the facts to come out. There are so many wild-assed rumors and so much bullshit speculation passing itself as fact right now, and we should wait for the Corps and the Navy to debrief Hassoun first. Defer all judgments until concrete facts come out. Cpl. Hassoun is a brother Marine, and I don’t want to see him or ANYONE denied due process of the law.

Enough of this “shoot him” or “hang him” shit; It just makes the investigation and discovery of pure fact even tougher. Don’t give the MSM any more ideas. All this horseshit does is encourage the reporters to sensationalize this kind of idiocy far beyond what it deserves.

  9. Yo! Russ and everyone else who failed to properly read my little post.

I said, “IF this is true, what should we do once we have him again?”

Remember, that’s “IF” as in “if.”

    Surely y’all can understand that.

And “IF” he perpetrated the hoax---a shot to the neck should be the solution.

  10. the guy showed up at an US embassy...further investigations (hopefully) will get to the truth of the matter. Give the guy due process before passing judgement. If he’s guilty...then hang him....

  11. Sgt. Hardin, I agree with you 100%. There are just too many unknowns right now and we need to withhold judgement until ALL the facts are out. Let the Navy and the Corps do their job. We here can only speculate and any accusations serve no useful purpose whatsoever.

Everyone please chill out until we know more. The Navy and the Corps already have legal staff questioning him. Let’s all keep in mind that at the end of the day Cpl. Wassoun is still a US Marine until (and if) he is tried & convicted.

  12. As Vilmar said his post and in his comment above, “IF THIS IS TRUE”, he was only speculating. Guilt or innocense has not been proven yet and I don’t think Vilmar meant to imply that he was guilty.

  14. If it is true and he is guilty, a Courts Martial will decide his fate.  Face it, in todays political climate no one is going to die for desertion, no matter what the circumstances are.  If you can keep the news media out of the picture I think the Navy/Marine Corps will handle it just fine.

I for one hope he isn’t guilty of any wrong doing because it will make it very difficult for others in the military who are of Arab descent.

  15. I’ll go with what Vilmar said. IF it turns out to be true

  18. I agree with Allan- let’s wait until we know all the facts- once the facts are known, then the Marine Corps will deal with it appropriately.........

  19. It is too soon to tell. Give the guy the benefit of the doubt and don’t speculate for the moment.

  20. IF this is true He and Liberal Larry should suffer the same fate. Both for Deserting thier Country. Although I think Larry is the bigger ass!!!

Posted by Alan S.    United States   07/09/2004  at  01:57 AM

  21. Put him back with his unit.

I know they won’t kill him....ok., I don’t know that.... but just imagine the hell he will live in…

The Marines will take good care of him. Cruel, probably unusual, but not punishment… in the legal sense…
