Well Put Skipper.
Yuo could have also used the Monday Night Miracle as a good analogy. We may be down, but we cna easily come back and take the White House and Congress back in 2008.
Teh most inportant thing they need to do is get back to the roots of the ‘94 Revolution. Less spending and high ethical morals. I think that maybe this might be the swift kick in the butt they need to get back on track. If they don’t, they deserve to loose in 2008 also, but I am putting my faith in them to come back strong.
So let’s get out there and kick some ass in 2008
Stix
Other than the fact that he called my editorial, “pure BS” I have to agree with Anonymous on all points. He only reinforces what I was trying to say in my own clumsy way. What did happen to the “Contract With America”?
Someone needs to put in a call to Newt Gingrich. If he has gotten over his ego problem, we sure could use him and the ideas he gave Republicans in 1994.
Skipper,
The bad thing is, we can’t bench the quarterback if is as “dumb as a rock” as you mentioned in the previous post. You also don’t have any reason to complain about the officials, unless the game was actually close.
Anonymous, you should sign up and become a regular! Pretty sure the Skip was using an “us” that meant We the Party; but you are correct that the local “we” didn’t do any of those things. Hell, I’m still mad about Fallujah, which wasn’t acted on for months for one reason alone - it was election season. I would have Dresdened the place the first afternoon. And I would have had to fight most of you for the right to push the Bombs Away button.
If a GOP resurrection is possible through the blogs, then the very best thing that can be done is to increase readership. Nobody reads these things - that’s a relative nobody, compared to TV news, online MSM news, etc. The ‘sphere needs to grow exponentially. Hey, I’m always either sending in stories or sending out links to folks I know; when something in the news comes up at work I know all about it, simply because the ‘sphere keeps me several days (at least) ahead of the TV and newspapers. But so many regular people only go online to shop or play fantasy football, and millions of others don’t even use the ‘net that much. Get the word out!
So if its up to us to reinvent the Republican Party, where do we start? I’d say aim for the middle; most people are going to be within the first standard deviation. That’s a real middle, not a looney left middle that sees Pelosi as a conservative. Anony nails the first plank: rule of law and equality under that law. No special privileges for the rich, famous, or elected. And he’s right, it will require genetic engineering. Or at least fetal stem cell research.
Anyway you want to slice it, it’s less that the Dems won than that the GOP lost. Two years ago should have been the warning. Bush came within a few votes of losing to John Kerry. Most people (on both sides) didn’t stop to think that only a fool as big as Kerry, with the backing of certifiable BDS Moonbats like Michael Moore and Jimmy Carter could have lost to Bush. The war was already losing the backing of much of America and the Dems with the help of the MSM were doing a full court press against any reasonable response to terrorism. Hubris would probably be a better explanation for this year’s loss. The GOP started believing their own press releases and quit doing the work they needed to do. Now we’re stuck with Nancy Pelosi, Feinstein, et al playing King of the Hill - gag.
Since the Dems seem to be even dumber than the GOP these days, 2 years from now any decent, strong Republican leaders should be able to do well. All we have to do is hang on and try to mitigate the damage the next 2 years will bring.
Drew,
I am sorry that I threatned to “hunt you down and kick your ass” for calling McCain a pussy last night. He seems like an OK Republican to me.
I wonder whether or not I am a Republican anymore. Allan called me a “Yellow Dog Democrat” earlier today. In my last few posts here, I noticed that I have recently started using a different pronoun when refering to the GOP. I have slipped from “we” into “they”.
I don’t want to be the PC police, but I am pretty well fed up with the notion that calling somebody:
Fwench
IslamoFacists
Dummycrats
Mess Cans
Euro Peons
Etc., Etc…
Passes for intelligent political debate.
It has been a bad couple of days.
A bit of a move to the middle might be in order at this point.
If the GOP tent is not large enough to include me, it is becoming a very small tent indeed.
Stan, I didn’t call you a “yellow-dog democrat”. I asked if you were becoming one. Don’t twist my words, pardner.
If you want “intelligent political debate”, you’re in the right place but make sure you get your facts straight before you jump on me.
The tent is open. Are you man enough to enter with ideas for change instead of just accusataions? If all you’re going to do is complain, you might as well go back to work for CCI-Triad (or whatever their name is nowadays) and hope no one notices there is nothing solid in the final deliverable except promises.
Stan, if I get too out of line I deserve an ass-kicking!
I’ve been forced to do some introspection myself. But so far I’ve come out the other side; I don’t feel my viewpoints are wrong, or excessive, anachronistic, cro-magnon, etc. I know the difference between right and wrong. I know enough history to understand what this country is all about and how things are supposed to be. It’s the rest of the people (or perhaps their never ending “voice” - the MSM) that have changed. I’ve stayed the same; they’ve shifted left. We are deep in an era of “1984” where endless repetition makes things true. The middle of the road is now past where the curb used to be.
Ok, I’ll admit it: the USA has so damn much money we can be a near-utopian welfare state, where the lazy and unambitious can live on the dole better than most citizens of middle stature in any other country. That doesn’t make it right, but we can do it.
We could be the greatest socialist nation that ever was merely by letting the rich guys keep running the big businesses that make everything in China and sell it to the rest of the world. And taxing the crap out of them of course. That doesn’t make it right, but we can do it.
Those of us with any smarts can continue to work in the service industries - doctors, plumbers, database admins, retail clerks, etc - and just endlessly recycle a large but stable amount of money within our nation. Nobody gets rich, nobody gets poor, everybody who wants to work has some work to do that they enjoy ... and the masters live above us all, while the lazy proles get their daily handouts and dose of patronizing. We really could do it, but that doesn’t make it right.
You don’t need individuality for this, nor do you need freedom. Just be a good citizen and obey and consume. GroupThink starts with Political Correctness and just nibbles away forever until there is no other way to think.
Is that day coming because the dems took power? You’ll have to decide ... but if you think it is you’re stuck. There is nowhere else you can go that’s better.
Good, I am glad I am in the right place for intelligent political debate.
In my opinion, you need to be jumped on every once and awhile.
As far as being a “Yellow Dog Democrat” is concerned, as I mentioned, I seem to be shifting from “We” to “They” with reference to the GOP. You can come to your own conclusions about that.
Ideas, We/They have a few…
We/They need to find a horse to back, and back that horse in Iraq. It might be anyone. We/They have suggested in a previous post, that the Kurds seem to be an obvious choice. If We/They were to partition the country, retreat out of the urban areas and protect the borders, ports and oilfields, We/They could let the civil war play itself out and ingratiate ourselves to the victor after the victor was known.
We/They also believes that building a dumb-ass, pork-barrel fence along the Rio Grande is about the stupidest idea that We/They has ever heard. We/They would refer you to this previous post.
We/They also believes that it is counterproductive to use the following terms inasmuch as the GOP is way behind in the forth quarter.
Fwench
IslamoFacists
Dummycrats
Mess Cans
Euro Peons
Etc., Etc…
Drew,
No offense intended, I have been a little out of sorts lately…
