  1. Alan - beautiful pictures of my adopted city - I have been here now for 25 years this month...........I very often take off downtown with my camera.........I will send you a couple of pics that I took last weekend...........I usually go downtown on Sundays or holidayS when there is little traffic - the better to take pics.............Last Xmas I took a pic of the Arch in winter - the interior decorater for our new ER wants one done in summer to go along with the winter pic - I went downtown last Sunday & took pics & also met & talked with a number of tourists...........there were a lot of tourists there last weekend.........I am also going to send you a pic that I took of my grand-daughter this weekend at my subdivision pool - I call it “The beauty”.........hope you will post them - thanks...........

  2. Good for you Skipper, it is always a good idea to get out and learn your new hometown.

You were missed of course, because the weekend feature was BLOWN off again by your
substitute, but hopefully you will remedy that now that you are relaxed and have
    enjoyed yourself.

St Louis is a beautiful city, glad you are liking it.

  3. Jaguar - yes, St. Louis is a beautiful city..........I have loved living here since 1982.......I am originally from Rhode Island & I must say I do miss the ocean and the seafood - I go back home whenever I can - I will be going back in September for 2 weeks..........But I make the most of my adopted city - I often go about with my camera to capture the beauty of St. L...................The interior decorater of my new ER, currently under construction, has chosen several of my pictures of St. L. to be placed in the new ER...................she has chosen pics that I have taken of the Arch, pics from the Zoo, plus an area at the Chain of Rocks Bridge, which hosts Eagle Days each January, among others...........

  5. Skipper - glad to hear you took time away from tending the ship to explore our city.  I think the more you do this, the more you will marvel at what a really neat place it is, not just a blot on the flyover country, as our friends (he’s not sure what they are???) on the coasts and the media seem to think.

For the best, try to see a game between our Cards and your Cubbies at Busch - St. Louis and baseball at its best!  Busch Stadium rocks for this one.

Anyhoo, welcome to the Gateway City, and I hope you grow more fond of it, as I have over the past 23 years, as the days go by.

  6. I like the name of the street in the first picture on top!

Lot of Krauts in St. Louis. My Grandma was born there to Swiss immigrant parent, my mom was originally from there too.

  9. GLad that you like St. Louis.  I have lived in the Metro east most of my life.  I agree with the Cards/ Cubs game as one of the best times in St. Louis.  It is a bitter rivalry, but the fans from both tewams respect each other.

Some time you should check out Bel Vegas(Belleille,IL) Downtown Belleville has a variety of interesting bars.  One of my favorite is Castletown Gaghen. It has some really good Irish food and music.

  11. Allan - did you drive into Forest Park?  A most beautiful area - home of the St. L. Art Museum, the History Museum, the Science Center, the Jewel Box (a facility with gorgeous flowers per season), and of course the St. L. Zoo, one of the most beautiful zoos in the country.............This September you must take in the Great Forest Park Balloon Race, scheduled for Sept. 16-17......On the eve of the 16th there will be a balloon glow & on the 17th the race will begin, usually at 5pm - depending on my work schedule I will usually go to the balloon glow or the race...........This year I will be flying back home from vacation on the 16th, so I will photogragh the race on Saturday the 17th...........This is one of my favorite St. L. activities - I go every year...........There are other places I invite you to visit - the Missouri Botanical Garden and the Butterfly House...........I am a member of the Butterfly House (I am also a Zoo Friend), so if you would like to see this just let me know & I can get you in for free on my membership........The Butterfly House is located in Faust Park in West St. Louis County - a historical park with old native houses & a beautiful carousel.......Let me know - I can be a great guide!!!
