  1. Why hasn’t he died yet?  confused

  2. I guess you really do learn something new every day.  I didn’t know Matthews was (one of?) Carter’s speechwriters.  That explains a lot…

  3. Yup, the President who invaded Iran with 5 helicopters and two C-130’s.

  4. Left out Saddam ascended to power (July 1979) while Carter was Presiding. And lest we not forget that he got his Nobel for the Middle East Peace Accord that went the way of them all - Palestine attacking Israel and then blaming Israel for it’s dead and dying.

The fact that Matthews went from Presidential speech writer to MSNBC is also a real testament to them both.

  5. Memories of Jimmy Carter:  Double digit inflation AND double digit unemployment, disastrous results in foreign and domestic policies (screw the Nobel Prize - the results of his work on Mideast history are devastating - just read the headlines), a total inability to accomplish anything worth doing while pontificating to the country and wearing a sweater.

Jimmy Carter does have some redeeming qualities though - he succeeded in turning me from a left wing Democrat into a libertarian Republican.  The man is so incompetent that his own party couldn’t and wouldn’t support him when he was President!

  6. It seems to me the American people decided in that election who was the “worst President ever.”

Followed by the next election which decided who was the “worst Vice President ever.” Hint: “_____ and Tits.”

  7. I can’t leave this fool alone!  When Nixon resigned and Ford was President, yeah, it was tough, but Ford had enough horse sense to keep the basics together.  Carter just plain blew it.  Yeah, I voted for him - only once though, I’m not that stupid.  Of all the votes I have cast, that one was arguably the worst.

When the country looked to him for real hope, honest government and good leadership, we got a sniveling weanie telling us to wear a sweater, rather than trying to solve the energy problems we were having.

When the economy got out of whack from the cost of Viet Nam, he told us to wear buttons saying “Whip Inflation Now”, and gave us the dumbest set of price controls I can imagine.  Yeah, I remember the insane Prime Rate - it was bad under Carter, but at it’s worst when Reagan and Volker took control of the economy.  By that point, they had to apply some serious shock therapy to bring the situation under control.

I also remember the unemployment rate, officially at 12% or so, yet I knew a lot of working people (including me) who had trouble finding good jobs and how we settled for whatever had a regular paycheck.  I also found some evidence that the true unemployment rate was between 15% and 20%.  Gee, the feds (especially Democrats, though Republicans weren’t looking real good just then either) wouldn’t cook the figures to make themselves look good, would they?

Before I forget inflation - when I was working, one year, my boss gave me over 20% in raises and I’ll swear that it was harder to pay my bills at the end of the year than it was at the beginning.  Prior to Reagan, we came very close to the same hyper inflation/unemployment situation that consumed Germany after WWI.  Every bit of the “Misery Index” (Who remembers that besides me?) I blame Jimmy Carter.

I can’t think of any of Carter’s acts as President that can ultimately be described as successful, that includes the Israel/PLO peace accord.

Can you tell how much disgust I have for Jimmy Carter?  If I’ve left any room for question, I’ll be happy to rant some more.  The dummy from Georgia trying to be a statesman really pisses me off.  My life was seriously and negatively impacted by his incompetence and I really liked it a lot better when he was building houses for welfare bums than trying to be a big shot again.

  8. Actually, it was Gerald Ford who had the “WIN” buttons.

    Not exactly a shining moment.

  9. Screw Carter, what with his hold on pay raises, his stupid Mr. Rogers sweaters, turning down the thermostat in winter and raising the air conditioner temperature in the summer, mortgage rates at over 20%, turning the White House Christmas tree lights on and off to signal our displeasure with Iran and the Soviets, his mother for not having had the decency to have a headache the night/day he was conceived, his criminally incompetent associates, his butt-ugly daughter who gave him advice (which he unfortunately took) on all matters great and small, and his giving a very bad name to born again Christians (he’s going to have to answer to a much higher power over that one), all made for four years in hell.
