Well here’s another fine mess the Germans are in. Another ship taken by Somali pirates.

  1. This whole Somali pirate business is getting a little unreal.  Everyone knows who they are, what they are, where they are and what they do.  Every d*mn navy patroling the area has lost it!

Germans?  No kidding peiper, the Kriegsmarine would have used them for target practice.  They’d only have written an account of the incident because they would have had to account for the expenditure of ammunition.

The Russian navy?  When’s the last time the Russians behaved like certifiable wusses?

The U.S. Navy?  Uh, we are talking about the descendents of the same navy that ripped the WW II Japanese fleet into scrap metal, aren’t we?

The British navy?  For over 100 years, the British navy ruled the oceans of the world.  The only time they took pirates as prisoners was so that the execution could made be public back home.

Can someone account in any way why The biggest bad asses on the seven seas are handling these guys with kid gloves?  For that matter, why hasn’t one of the shipping companies hired someone like Blackwater to “help” with security?

This level of insanity can’t just be a matter of political correctness.  Even if the Americans, Brits and Germans were PC, when did the Russians ever care?  I’m starting to wonder if the Somalis don’t have backing and protection from someone else.  Does anyone have any thoughts?

  3. Jeff ... funny you should mention backing and protection. The answer is YES!!!

I wish I could find an old post I did after hearing a radio program on the very subject.
I can not now recall all the details. But at the time I actually grabbed my pen and notepad by the bedside and started taking notes. I wish I’d saved them now.

Authorities have actually traced something (again, it escapes me me) to London. There is organization and the hijackings are NOT necessarily random targets of opportunity.

The news broadcast was BBC Radio 4.

  4. No surprise that they have inside info. Of course they do! Otherwise they’d be hijacking ships full of garbage and manure, and wind up being the laughing stock of the pirate world.

Which shows how they can be defeated of course. Just put the word out that a high value, locally useful cargo is en route, but what you really send is a major Q ship. See? That’s what drives me nuts about this whole thing ... it’s so damn easy to fix. Any solution short of nuclear attack would be Ok with the rest of the world. Nobody cares. Nobody. Not even Somalia itself. Months ago they gave the whole world permission to do whatever they wanted to solve this problem. Nerve gas? Fine. Napalm? Fine. Cluster bombs? Nobody cares!

And we still owe these fuckers for Mogadishu. A very very large banquet, well chilled and aged to perfection. A “take out” order, with extra spice. Roger that; take them all out.
