  1. I have to laugh sometimes. I grew up in Bergen County, NJ in the 1950’s and a couple of 24 to 30 snows every season were a common event. No big deal. A day off school, maybe 2 then bingo lafe was back to normal.

The winters were colder longer then. I remember the Oradell reserviour (pretty big) froze over and stayed that way for a month or 6-weeks.

Now the LSM calls panic every time a few flakes are spotted.

  2. I was just north of the Jersey line in those days, and you are correct. Winter of 78 had to be one of the coldest and longest on local record. We were playing ice hockey and going skating outside the week after Halloween. IIRC there was snow, snow, and more snow. Parents said it was bad, but nothing compared to winter of 1960, with a blizzard every damn week, and cars with flags tied to poles on the antennas so they could see each other at the intersections. Many feet of snow on the ground for months. One year in the mid 80s was like that too; I remember shoveling out the old guy next door’s place, and the snow was up to the windows in his garage. 6 feet? Probably drifts, I guess.

No, folks can’t handle it anymore. OTOH, there’s 30 times as many people there now. And folks today have no patience at all.

  3. We haven’t had even a hint of snow this year except in the local mountains(Hood,Rainier,St Helens Etc). Unless February gets busy we may miss it entirely this year(YEA). Was kind hoping you got a nice blast so these pages would be full of “Drew News on the Winter Blues”.

  4. “We’ve never seen anything like this,” said Suffolk County Executive Steven Bellone.

Sorry, but that’s just plain old simple bullsh!t.

Why do people make statement’s like this? Do they not know that statements can be verified? Crap, I haven’t even finished my first cup of coffee and I’m already pissed off - frickin’ morons. It’s no wonder this country is head around the bowl.
