Good point...but
First off....Commissioned Officers resigning their commission will never happen. The powers that be in the top Command will never let it happen...*you are a commissioned officer, you will be a commissioned officer as long as we want you to be a commissioned officer*
Now, if this attempt was made, the only thing it will accomplish is that Officer being drummed out of the military once the war is over...if indeed, they are not killed in combat before then....indeed, being dispatched to a *hot zone* is not unheard of
As long as we have non- military people higher than Command leadership worried about their careers and +political correctness*, lower tier soldiers will continue to be brought up on charges pertaining to any grey area
In my thinking, mass media is anti war agenda driven...attempted resignations of commissions will not garner much media coverage...or, the coverage will be twisted into something so far fetched the true cause will be lost....The majority of the media would much rather cover a juicy story about how U.S. troops have supposedly screwed up...versus anything good they have done....
I concur 100 percent in that the U.S. must tweak the rules of engagement...and TWEAK them fast!! Perhaps we also need an addendum to the Geneva Convention directed solely at terrorist activity, and the *grey* areas
In my thinking...if we , in the U.S. can sentence someone to death for treason, WHY is there such an uproar about an enemy combatant, ie: terrorist, being killed or *mishandled* . We have soldiers dealing with terrorists who are willing to behead them , and then splash that image all over the world on film...yet, the powers that be , expect these same U.S. soldiers to act with due diligence in the face of perceived threat? “Gee whiz!, wait 5 more minutes, maybe he won’t blow your head off, blow up your convoy, or run that car bomb through your checkpoint” Give me a FREAKING break.
Kill or be killed.
