  1. When in doubt, Snopes it out!

The 1st one is true, at least for a given value of true. It’s a simplified version of what he actually said.

I can’t find anything on the 2nd and 3rd ones. They may be true or not. The concepts behind them are certainly true enough, but whether the opportunity to say them actually came up is not something that I can determine in a 3 minute search.

  2. Hi Drew,

This is what I mean… you cite Snopes, yet fail to provide a link!

    Aaarrrgghhh!

  3. Had time to ‘snope’ it out.

    Actual quote

Full remarks can be found here

Here is what SecState Powell said:

We have gone forth from our shores repeatedly over the last hundred years and we’ve done this as recently as the last year in Afghanistan and put wonderful young men and women at risk, many of whom have lost their lives, and we have asked for nothing except enough ground to bury them in, and otherwise we have returned home to seek our own, you know, to seek our own lives in peace, to live our own lives in peace. But there comes a time when soft power or talking with evil will not work where, unfortunately, hard power is the only thing that works.

  4. I knew you could do it!!

  5. Yep. And my LTC friend came back and said he’d find the rest.

Meanwhile, just for you Drew… a little girl fan

I’ll probably burn in Hell for that!

  6. If it’s not composed of true quotes, it should be.  Yeah, we’ve been stupid in some of our foreign actions, but we’ve done a huge amount of good too.  When help was needed, I can’t think of a time when we weren’t the first up and usually the one who gave the most.

btw - What would you guys think of drafting Colin Powell for President?

  7. Drafting Colin Powell… nahhh. He’s a liberal. This becomes clearer each time he opens his mouth. Draft him if you want, but I won’t vote for him...unless the choices are Powell or Hillary. He might be the lesser of two evils.

But why vote for the lesser of two evils? Vote Cthulhu 2008!

He’ll save the environment by exterminating mankind.

  8. Ah, France.
My first time in France my buddy and I were busy drinking on an old French guy’s tab (member of the Resistance, of course) when a younger French guy stepped in to give us his (unwanted) opinion of America.
My buddy replied “Sprechen Sie Deutsch?”
One thing about being in the Navy, you got into fights in more countries than most people could name.
