“I suspect this is so low key because if the media goes after him, they will be compelled to also go after John F**king Kerry (*) for doing the same thing in Vietnam.”
I gotta take a rare exception to your comment here, Vilmar. The MSM has shown itself to be decidedly flexible in the stories that it deems worth persuing. This solider, because he is claiming CO status, will become the “proof” that this is an “immoral war”, that he is indicative of the evil that resides in the White House, the US war effort is in shambles, soliders are deserting in droves, etc etc.
John Feckless Kerry, will get a pass, just like always because...ummmmm...well.... just because he is John Feckless Kerry and he was opposed to the war (before he was in favor of the war).
Justin at Classical Values comments on speculation that had the MSM done their job, GW’s victory would have been as much as 15% greater. Interesting read!Classical Valuse of course if my aunt had balls, she would be my uncle…
Yatalli,
On your first comment I dismayingly agree.
As for the second, I’d read that somewhere and you HAVE to agree. Had they been “responsible” journalists and gone after Kerry with the glee they went after Bush...............
I have a question that one of you good people might be able to answer for me.
Since when is a mechanic thrown into a hot battle situation? Mechanics in the military are mechanics, not paratroopers, not helicopter operators, not etc etc. Mechanics are fixing shit behind the front lines not on patrol were they might be placed in a position where they are facing down rock throwing kids.
Granted the guy is in the army and is trained to fight, but his specialty is being a mechanic. WTF, are mechanics performing special operations while Green Berets are turning bolts.
I call BULLSHIT. This guys story doesn’t add up.
IMO, one has to wonder what their definition of “children” was. A good sized rock hurled by an 18 year old could have looked like, or could also have been, a grenade. (During the ‘fog’ of battle.)
Likewise, the killing of that media cameraman, supposedly a mistake, might have been just that - a mistake. An ENG unit on someone’s shoulder peeking around a corner looks very similar to the newer versions of an RPG. Sometimes you have to shoot first and ask questions later if you are in harm’s way and want to talk about it later.
Ask anyone who’s been in combat. Intense or otherwise. Shit happens. (Been there, done that, got the T-shirt.)

Actually, LC Geno, I have to note one correction. I was a mechanic and a paratrooper. I worked with a contact team that was responsible for being on the front lines with the infantry soldiers to recover broken/shot/destroyed vehicles. We were getting fired at with alarming regularity.
That’s not to say I support this piece of crap. If you don’t realize what you’ll be doing when you join the Army, then you’re a complete idiot.
