WAS MCCARTHY CORRECT?  WERE THERE REALLY REDS UNDER OUR BEDS?

  1. It must really hurt Aaronovitch to admit this. He is one of the biggest bed wetting liberals of them all.

  2. I’ve started reading up on the Venona Papers, the partial decryption of the top Soviet diplomatic code for over twenty years. McCarthy was right and it was worse than he thought. In 1944, FDR dropped his previous VP for Truman. The other guy, Henry Wallace, was so confident that FDR would die and leave him President that he wrote down his cabinet and top government picks. The head of his State Department and the OSS (precursor to the CIA) were both confirmed Soviet agents. I believe the State Department fellow (can’t remember his name) either threw himself out a window or was murdered (no one knows for sure).

  3. Thank you StormBird, I logged in to mention the Verona Papers. Yes, it’s true: from early FDR until the middle of Eisenhower the top of the US Government was loaded with paid soviet agents, actual spies, actual communists, and sympathizers. Chock effin full of them. China is communist today because a commie close to the Oval Office put a monkey wrench in our support of Chang Kai Shek. I can not say with confidence that they were all rooted out by the time Kennedy had his Bay of Pigs fiasco.

McCarthy was so right it boggles the mind.

And don’t forget (if you are old enough to remember) or learn now if you aren’t: Joe McCarthy was A HERO to the American public. People LOVED HIM and were behind him 1000%. It was only the east coast Ivy League Elite (a bastion of commies and homos like Eaton with Kim Philby and his ilk) and the media (all leftists like Ed Murrow) who hated him. McCarthy had very rough edges and was not suave or nuanced. But he was RIGHT. Painting him as a hateful lying terrorist who was 100% wrong has been the work of the MFM for the last 60 years. Even the term “McCarthyism” has been “Swiftboated” - both true, both turned inside out and reversed in meaning. McCarthy was right, and Kerry was a lying cowardly little shit of a sailor.

  4. Not only was McCarthy right, but there are STILL communists under our beds. And one in the White House.

  5. I always had to laugh, uh, feel bad for the kids of Julius and Ethel Rosenberg who were executed in the ‘50s for selling atomic bomb secrets to the Russians.  Their kids fought for over 40 years to clear their parents names.

Then the Soviet Union fell and the KGB opened their files and admitted, “uh yeah they were working for us all the time....”

They spent their whole lives and lots of money only to find out that their folks were the traitors everyone had branded them all along.

  6. My Hatred for Communism knows no bounds.

  7. For much more on this topic, read Ann Coulter’s Treason. In addition to great gobs of Ann Coulter sarcasm (never to be missed), between Venona and DDR documents made available after the wall fell, she builds a compelling case that McCarthy was pretty much on target. Not completely, and perhaps not effectively, but generally so. That wasn’t the way I remember it being taught in social studies.

  8. Drew: You are right, save for two small quibbles:

China is communist today because a commie close to the Oval Office put a monkey wrench in our support of Chang Kai Shek.

Not really. Chiang had our support for almost twelve years during his “war” with Japan and could have acted to build up support there. He had control of China for nearly two decades, in which he could have tried to turn the country into something not resembling a bad caricature of a Banana Republic divided to its very core. He could have also chosen to not bite the hand that fed him by not screwing us over at every possible oppertunity. He could have fought his battles more competently without calamities like the fiascos of the half-successful Encirclement campaigns (which failed to completely stamp out the CCP in SPITE of vast amounts of German, Portuguese, and Thai aid, overwhelming numerical superiority, and surpise). He could have stamped out the warlords that plagued China and solidified control over the KMT to the extent where it could become at LEAST a semi-Cohesive dictatorship like what Mao was able to do. He could have given the common Chinese person at least the impression that he was working for their benefit and making them something more than the laughing stock of the world. He did none of these things. He failed as a leader, a soldier, a politician, and ultimately as a person. While we can chalk some of the refusal to give aid to Chiang from 45-50 to Communist espionage, most of it had to do with people who knew him too well putting the breaks on it from the understandable desire to not see it squandered by an inept leader and thus fall into the hands of the Communists or to even turn it on us if (by any chance) he actually WON.

    bastion of commies and homos

Sorry, guv’ner, but Homosexuality had nothing to do with loyalty in this conflict, as shown by people like Moravel and Heinz. To say such an inflammatory thing is not merely s disservice to this blog by givent he Left yet more “Conservatives are Bigots” ammo, it is doing a disservice to the aformentioned individuals in my post and many more for comparing them to bastards like Cairncross and his ilk.
