The trailer park in this story is the very same one that was part of the PNC bank robbery back in April 2007 in which an FBI agent was killed by friendly fire. That bank robbery was a couple miles away from this event, in a better part of the county. http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/04/05/national/main2652024.shtml
The only other majorly violent crime in recent memory in the area was the Jayson Williams imbroglio, and that was 25 miles to the west of this one out in Alexandria. But off of Route 22, not actually on it. So the road itself doesn’t somehow attract crime, it’s just the major local east-west road in the area.
I’m curious about the keffiyeh. That strikes me as very curious.
The obliterated serial numbers bother me as well. I own all sorts of firearms and think most anyone should be able to buy and keep personal firearms - even machine guns - but why obliterate a serial number? Just strikes me as indicative of evil intent. I could be wrong.
The map of the (unidentified) ‘other community’ made me think of either a place of hiding and refuge or perhaps a secondary target. The map of the military facility also brings up certain suspicions about his intent.
The FBI statement did have an escape hatch. “… should only be considered preliminary findings.” SOP to try to downplay panic. Okay. However, it makes me wonder if an incident takes more than one person to be a ‘terrorist attack’. Google the El Al ticket counter attack at LAX several years ago. One man, acting alone as far as anyone can tell. Major Nadal, the Ft. Hood shooter seemed to act without any physical assistance. Does a killer need a membership card in order to qualify as a terrorist?
