  1. It is just amazing and mindboggling what these soldiers have to/are willing to do.  I just cannot imagine the horror that they must deal with.  Another reason they are heroes…

  2. Please, Y’all, keep my son-in-law in your thoughts/prayers - HE’s one of those young men with boots on the ground there, aiding in the body recovery detail ..................

  3. I am so proud of our U.S. military, where ever they might go, what ever they might do- they always give their best, under conditions that more times than not call for courage, perseverance and personal fortitude. The sacrifices they make can never be repaid.Bless them.

  4. Every Day, DM, grateful to live in a country where we CAN pray for our soldiers - many in my own family.

  5. I truly believe that this type of mission is the kind they like best. It’s all positive.

  6. IIRC, Clark was overrun by a volcano, Phobos. Lava and all that stuff. There were political factors involved as well as cost in shutting down Subic Bay and Clark. More and more Philipinos wanted us out of there. Okay, fine. It’s what they wanted.

Now they want us back to help fight the rebels and coincidentally help rescue their disaster victims. This is what happens when folks try to have things both ways.

  7. Rescue is good. We make lousy Cops or Social Workers.

  8. Oink, I’m pretty sure you recall your young, hard-charger days - no offense, StinKerr, but my son-in-law does NOT particularly like his current duty - body recovery - he’s still at the age {as I mentioned Oink could remember} where if, given a choice between fighting, and digging up the bodies of children, he’d choose fighting - it’s that testosterone thing - plus, he and his fellow Marines, as they remove the bodies from the mud, are thinking of their siblings, cousins, nieces, nephews - in some cases, their own children ............................

  9. You guys* are right. Every big disaster eventually goes from the rescue phase to the recovery phase.

    * Like my former female boss, I use “guys” to include “gals”.
