2. According to one account I read, this rescue operation as authorized by President Obama.  Good for him; that’s one in a row.  (C’mon, folks, we have to encourage him when he gets something right, and that’s few and far between.)

   After my comment regarding the French rescue of their people, I have to say, “About freakin’ time!” But good work all around anyway.

3. Hmm.. the story seems to have disappeared from Reuters.. The Somali Elders just basically said that they were declaring war on Fwance and America because we killed some of their best and brightest…

   Someone needs to inform these idiots that when you bring a loaded AK-47 into a crime, you should be prepared to die, and basically, if the ‘Elders’ (if that is indeed an official government position) are involved in this, then it is an act of war to board a ship at sea under a nation’s colors.. How many nations are they potentially at war with?

   I vote we just send in a couple of MOABs into the mix and show these goat herders what “war” can be…

   Another suggestion is to quarantine Somalia until they can get their act straight… 1 government, or at least a unified country that isn’t trying to be Feudal Japan with warlords and constant internal wars…
   It gets boring.

7. Okay, I have found part of the article which was fairly watered down and edited in another article…

   Somali pirates were quick to vow revenge over the shooting of their comrades, as well as a French military assault to rescue a yacht on Friday.

   “The French and the Americans will regret starting this killing. We do not kill, but take only ransom. We shall do something to anyone we see as French or American from now,” Hussein, a pirate, told Reuters by satellite phone.

   So, they do not kill.. tell that to the captain of the ship that had a dud RPG land
   in his cabin.. Tell that to Richard Phillips, who had guns aimed at him, or the Fwench family that had guns pointed at their heads.. Were these guns unloaded? Were the Somalis going to clap their hands, laugh, say “just kidding” and go their merry way?
   HELL NO. They were armed in the commission of a felony in any country (kidnapping, hijacking) The weapons were PROVEN loaded, as the case of Capt. Phillips when they shot at him when he tried to swim away, or the Fwench commandos who were fired at from belowdecks, through the deck. These guys are trying to spin themselves into something ‘kinder and gentler’ than the criminals they are.
   Will the liberal US public eat it up with a spoon?
   You bet, if the press keeps answering the phone when the pirate’s press agents and spin doctors call.. It Makes Good News, and Reuters likes to control the news, for better or for worse. This makes controversy and NOTHING sells news like CONTROVERSY.

8. I’d lay pretty good odds that these pirates wound up having their heads turned into canoes by either a .338 Lapua Magnum or a .50 BMG, either one fired from several of those Barrett (sp?) sniper rifles.

   Also, Obama trusted the judgement of the commander on the scene.  Not a Dem trait.  I will give him props for that.

9. Hey guys, just a thought. Or question more like.

   The Navy arrested one of the vermin, right?
   So .... do we have any idea where the trial will be held?  Gitmo is out.
   Why a trial I’ve no idea but I’m assuming that’s what will happen.
   And if so, who defends?  And how can anyone defend a pirate?

   Just wish the Navy had dumped him overboard but you know there were more then likely military lawyers aboard that vessel.  Would you bet against that?

10. I think it’s called a Captain’s Mast, Peiper? I’m not an old sea dog, but I think that’s the term.

    Somebody contact Raytheon for a little upgrade contract ... issue each ship a 12 foot long oak spar and 100 feet of 1” hemp rope. Got to have a proper yardarm for a proper hanging.
