Laissez leur manger la gateau.
Let them eat cake…
If the price of corn goes up, more corn will be grown. Thus more corn will need to be picked, so there will be more work for the poor, thus they will earn more money and be able to afford the more expensive corn. Si?
On the other hand, going hungry because you can’t afford food at 45 cents per pound shows just how poor the Mexican poor really are. Isn’t about high time their own government did something about that? Or maybe the people themselves??
Here’s my suggestion, el Presidente` just might want to use the 23 billion (yes that’s billion with a B) being sent to the wastelands of Mexico by the millions of illegals he packed off to America to ‘subsidize’ the corn purchasing in Mexico. [BTW that is a 15 percent increase over the 2005 amount funnelled, oops sent back to Mexico].
What is the problem? I just don’t get it with NAFTA, et al, the 12 to 20 mill of ‘immigrants’ who still hold Mexican citizenship, many whom just cross the border long enough to get their welfare checks from their American PO boxes, not to mention all the criminals not being dealt with in Mexico but rather in American jails, the ‘tourist’ traps the rake in lots of money from Americans yearly, and did I mention the 23 billion sent into Mexico via the illegals - the country should be a paradise, not whinning.
white corn-tortilla
yellow corn-ethanol
somebody is misinformed
but what’s new about that?
To all Mexicans facing hunger over this issue:
The folks buying corn futures don’t know yellow corn from black beans and will make an attempt to corner the corn market so as to reap windfall profits. To those who face starvation please take your concerns to the nearest tree hugger and let them know how you feel about food being used to fuel cars.
Oh, and I posted about this in the forums under Ethanol, corn and you.
