Or they could bring the stuff back to the states and sell them to anyone thats leagle to own a gun and help cut the deficit even if its a small amount its better then nothing.
I won’t draw any moral comparisons between Saddam’s Iraq and anywhere in Africa. It’s all bad, some is just worse than others.
If you think Iraq is a morass, I believe that almost anywhere you care to name in Africa has only worse possibilities.
Iraqis know what government should be and now have a chance at forming a free government again.
Africans were left, in many cases, with functioning governments when the Europeans left and have systematically destroyed them. Robert Mugabe is only one of the latest examples. He took over Zimbabwe and its riches and systematically destroyed it.
Go read Kim du Toit’s essay Let Africa Sink or this article..
It’s ugly and it’s self made.
On reflection, I’ll modify that “self made” statement to the extent that it’s mostly self made.
There are other forces making things bad in Africa: One is the traditional Arab/Moslem influence which buys, sells and murders black Africans; another is some of the old European colonial masters (read France in particular); another is the relatively recent influence of the Chinese who are heavilly involved in the prospective oil riches to be found in the Darfur section of Sudan. (partnered with guess who...yep, the French)
I keep waiting for more on the left to encourage us to be more involved in Africa, particularly Sudan/Darfur. I say more involved because we are already providing relief supplies. More than the rest of the world combined, BTW.
I’ve even baited some lefties to try to get them to commit to the idea, but I really believe that they’d rather wait for us to get involved so that they can bitch some more.
On the whole, your idea has great merit, Skipper. Were I in command I’d say “make it so”. Luckilly for lots of folks, I’m not in command.
Hey, if there’s any left over, send them to Zimbabwe. There’s another lump of prime ministerial
that needs bagging and sterilising. See here.
Very elegant solution to the problem. I concur!
