My father-in-law was a huge Packers fan (don’t start). When Greenbay was on Monday night his routine was to go to his local bar and watch the game and then call my husband to hash over every play. On Sundays when they played he called my husband during the game and they armchair coached, Paw in Milwaukee and us where ever. When he won in the weekly pools he always shared his winnings with us and when he lost we commiserated. He lived to see his beloved Packers become national champions one more time. Monday nights will never be the same.
I have not been a real professional football fan for some years now, but I do have fond memories of watching the Monday night games with my dad, and have watched a few Monday games in the past few years. I guess I will have to find something else, since I am too cheap to have cable TV or get a dish.
I thought ABC and ESPN were owned by the same people (?). Why the switch if that’s the case?
The bottom line. The ratings are in the dumper, I presume. They want to get their Monday night ratings up, so they move MNF to ESPN, which would free up time not normally available to them during that time of year. They put what’s usually on Monday nights in the off-season, and boost their ratings.
