Interesting. But China has done, and is currently doing, the same thing to us. Everyone is spying on everyone, so Snowden is well, an asshole, but kind of a non story. I’ve said before he’d just a distraction. He’s a White House operative doing exactly what he was told to do.
Okay, so maybe I am ignorant here, so please excuse my stupidity in asking this. But what major secret did this guy tell the world? That the USA spies on everyone, and can hack emails and listen in on phone calls of anyone at anytime? Is there more?
Because if that is what his big secret is that he is revealing...all I can say is DUH!!! Everyone knows that the govt can do these things and has been doing it for quite a while and has no morality in choosing to do these acts.
To me, it’s like saying lions eat lambs. Even if I have never seen this act, think it disgusting, hate to admit that it happens, I know in my heart, that lions eat lambs, and I am not surprised when someone offers proof of what I already know to be true without it.
Again, maybe I don’t grasp the big picture here. For me, this guy is equated with the kid in school who first tells you that Santa Claus is fake. You hate him for telling you the truth, but in the end, you realize that you really knew it all along anyway.
If I am off base at all, please straighten me out. I am willing to hear that my ignorance is insanely great and willing to be taken to task on my simplistic way of thinking?

Tell us some of what secret stuff got out, and we’ll be the judge of whether it matters or not (which puts us at least halfway into the “he’s a hero” camp, but right now, our own government needs a severe spanking, so fuck them). sd .. Off base? No. You and grayjohn are right of course. ALL govts. do this. We’d be surprised if they didn’t. But the thing is, this guy went out of his way and gave away things that are causing his country trouble. OK, it isn’t WW3. We aren’t closing diplomatic embassies or anything like that. But it’s also my understanding from the bits I have heard, that some of what he’s leaked was sensitive. There’s another thing as well.
He has given the America haters and even those who may bot hate us but aren’t certain about us, a stick to beat us with. Ah see? Americans again. What else can we expect? Blah,blah.And of course I’m sensitive to that because being here, from time to time I get a bit of that. There’s this thinly veiled criticism put in the form of questions sometimes. It was especially bad when Bush was in office. Ignorant Americans voting for a man who can’t speak or read. You name it, I heard it. I never asked him but, I’d bet NJ Yankee has too over the years he’s been in Ireland. Perhaps not as much there as here. ? I’ll have to ask him about that.
I do understand what you guys are saying and there’s no argument from me on that. It’s just that I look very unkindly on Americans knocking our country to outsiders. Hell, no such thing anymore with the net and all.

I guess my point is, did this guy provide our enemies with sensitive info that they did NOT have? Did he provide them with programs to spy on us that they did not previously have? Did he give them anything at all, whether it was information, tools of any kind, computer programs, secret blueprints, or the oh so valuable NOC list that Jack Bauer tried to protect? Or, did he simply tell We The People that our government was spying on us, without warrants, against every tenant of our beliefs, against our constitutional rights, in violation of the laws of this land, in violation of the restrictions We The People supposedly mandated the govt never break, and then LIE TO US ABOUT IT WHEN WE ASKED THEM?
If he helped our enemies in any way, then he deserves a traitor’s death. If he simply outed obama and his ilk and told on them, giving notice with proof to We The People, that our supposed trusted, open and transparent govt, was in fact lying to us and was violating our very RIGHTS that THEY WERE SWORN TO UPHOLD...well then, in my book, the guy is a hero.
