Tragic Justice

  1. My thoughts exactly what kind of parent allows a 12 year old to be out at midnight? When I was (a lot) younger we lived in Iowa. They had a curfew for under 16 year olds. At the time I thought it a bit strange having come from England but with the wisdom of hindsight it was a damn good idea. Kept kids where they belong at night, at home!

  2. Tragedy, for all concerned.  The girl will be haunted for years, the kid is dead, and the two adults may have their lives ruined.

If I were on the jury and considered the circumstances, I would ask: suppose instead that the two adults called the police and a cop chased the kid with the same result. Would the cop be charged?

I vote not guilty.  The kids’ actions brought the results upon themselves.

  3. In these times most likely the cop would be charged :<

  4. I definitely would have chased them. Beat the shit out of them, probably not. ‘Snot fair to physically beat a 12-year-old when you outweigh him by 90 or 100 pounds. THAT would not go over with the local police department, or the kid’s father (I would hope that he has one around). I would be willing to place a SMALL wager on the proposition that these little dudes didn’t have a father in the house.

I DEFINITELY did shit like this when I was a kid, a little older - like 14, as a matter of fact. Kids just don’t think about the consequences of their actions.

ANYWAY, I doubt a bottle rocket would do much damage to the OUTSIDE of the care, but OCM is right - if that thing landed INSIDE - boy, it could’ve caused a major wreck, maybe blinded someone in the car, killed more than just one person like what happened.  If I was a cop on duty and was called to this crime scene, I probably would not have chased the boy into traffic - seems that it might’ve been enough to take down some information and figure out who it was doing it - just go to their house later (it’s a small town). If the accomplice didn’t run, you could’ve caught him and he might’ve talked.
