"We ought to expect better from the “professionals”.
Yeah well, we should but standards have changed. As you know Drew, we get more then one paper every day. The number of typos and sentences ending with no clue as to where they pick up is now common. I’m surprised when I don’t see it. There are NO proof readers anymore. They now split words that were never meant to have two cil-a-bels. OK, syllables.
I know we and Brits spell many words differently, and we even pronounce words differently.
But I have seen words missig leters entirely. I guess when things went to computers they figured spell check would take care of it all. Something else I see in papers these days that frankly surprised me. Bad language. We usually expect it on a blog site, and I am not one to talk although I am trying to curb (kerb?) my propensity to resort to potty mouth expressions. It’s difficult sometime because I write in anger and frustration. BUT ... I never expect it as a normal pattern of speech in a newspaper.
