Anyone know where the truth of this is? Personally, I’d tend to favor the Ethiopians, but that would be pure bias on my part. Is there any news source that’s actually trustworthy for this one?
Hmmmmm, one item I didn’t notice at first; the announcement came from the Islamic Courts Union. Somebody please tell me that it isn’t a transnational Islamic/Islamofascist organization.
Relax Doc, its only a nothing-to-see-here-move-along organization. It’s the Al-Qaeda linked sharia court that’s basically running Somalia. Read a little about it. I can’t say that they are transnational, but they are supported by every terrorist group and terror sponsoring Middle East country. Draw your own conclusion.
They will fight Ethiopia. And Ethiopia, land of the good Christian king Prester John, will fight back. The land of Punt going to war against the land of Kush, just past the old borders of Nubia. Signs and Portents, or just a who-cares proxy war that will leave another few hundred thousand Africans dead while the rest of the world pretends it doesn’t exist?
Drew, the ICU is the loosely organized group of warlords who managed to come out on top after Clinton’s “Blackhawk Down” adventure and the subsequent US pullout. A gang of thugs, no less. Reports are that Bin Laden and Al Qaeda are looking to return to Somalia as a base now that Afghanistan is no longer safe.

Ok Skip, I can see that too. As usual, they’re a bunch of crooks hiding behind a mask of religion. Or a bunch of religious zealots who hooked up with the thugs. I can’t understand the alliances on Survivor, so the nuances of islamic cooperations are beyond me. But I did see on the news this morning that the last free city is surrounded by their gunmen, so I expect the bloodbath to begin tomorrow. One more vile ethnic cleansing in Africa that the world ignored, and the aftermath is just about guaranteed to have the ICU leaders turn against each other in their play for ultimate power. Meanwhile the people there continue to die.
Sometimes it escapes me how there can be anybody left on that continent. If they aren’t being chopped to bits by rival tribes they’re having famines. And if they actually can find something to eat then the world’s worst diseases wipe them out. Anybody who can survive those three plagues is Purina Lion Chow. And yet the populations continue to grow!

FWIW, the “Rastafarians” in Jamaica and elsewhere, took their group name from him, they believe him to be a direct descendant of the Queen of Sheba, although I dunno how that links to a life of smoking enormous amounts of ganja.
