That is some awesome firepower.
More firepower than all the world’s fleets in all of history combined.
Heard a guy talking about a naval gathering in India to celebrate its 50-somethingth independence anniversary. A lot of ships from many nations. This guy was former US Navy and was with a lot of fleet admiral types from all over the world, most of whom, he mentioned, had graduated from the US Naval War College.
So they go on the Indian CNO’s yacht touring among the ships in Mumbai (Bombay) Harbor. Men o’ war from all over. Ships of the Line. Among them was one US ship, a guided missle cruiser, Aegis Class. It was the deadliest ship in the harbor. It alone, in the opinion of the speaker, could have sunk every other ship. It could travel farther, faster, all alone without resupply and be safer than any ship in the harbor.
GO NAVY!
Then there is the firepower which isn’t seen here: the fast-attack subs and the “boomer” ballistic missile subs which are also part of the Fleet.
It has been that each of our BM subs are effectively the “third most powerful nation on the planet” in terms of nuclear firepower, and there are around 18 more of them strategically scattered about in the ocean…
I guess that makes us Number One, as well as Numbers Three through Twenty, all at the same time
“don’t tread on me”
Back when I first worked nuclear armed B-52’s, my commander tried to put the power of a Buff in perspective for us young airmen. He emphasized to us that one B-52 sitting on the Alert Pad contained more firepower than the total bomb tonnage dropped by both sides during WWII, Korea, and Vietnam, including the two Nukes.
Ooooohhhhh, yeah. Gotta love that.
