  1. A splendid ship, and well named.

If they name anything other than a garbage scow for George H.W.’s successor, it will be a travesty.

    LOL

  3. Nothing against GHWB, but what the hell happened to the old ship names, like Lexington, Yorktown and Saratoga?!?

  4. I’d like to see those names again myself, Captain.

If my information is correct, the last USS Yorktown (CG48), a guided missile cruiser, was decommissioned in 2004.  The last USS Lexington (CV16), one of the WWII Essex class carriers, was decommissioned in 1991 and is now a museum ship in Corpus Christi, TX.  The last USS Saratoga (CV/CVA/CVB60), a carrier, was decommissioned in 1994.

I do not know whether CG48 and CV60 are laid up in mothballs, or were scrapped.  If anyone knows, I’d appreciate getting the word.

    wink

  5. First question a US President askes when there is trouble anywhere in the world is often, “Where are the carriers?” A projection of power and capability unmatched by anything that humans control.
