  4. Ellis Island.

In April 1995, our senior trip did a weeklong trip through Washington DC and New York City. The day we went to Ellis Island/Statue of Liberty was cloudy and overcast, so I was one of a handful of students that went to Ellis Island. Glad I did too, cause everyone else was bitching hardcore about how they couldn’t see squat from the top decks of the Statue of Liberty.

  6. Ellis Island

Too easy, my great grandparents, all four sets, came in that way. Legally. Shanty Irish, as in “Irish not wanted.” All of them fleeing the Troubles.

  7. Yep.  Didn’t need Google Earth, but it did verify the name for me. <grin> My mother hit the island in ‘15 on the way to visiting her sister in Ohio.  She was not impressed with American men.  She was returning to Versailles, France in ‘17 on the same ship my father was journeying to become an ambulance driver a la Hemingway.  They maintained contact as my dad became a flyer of SPADS and such.  They were married in NYC in ‘19.  Apparently she was impressed with that particular American.
