My sympathy anyway Skipper.
I’ve dealt with a couple of herniated discs in the past, and nothing touched the pain.
Best wishes, sir.
Best wishes for a speedy recovery, Skipper.
(Oh and sign me up for the Recon Group, please. I’ll help add to the fun )
Back in 1981 I had a lamenectomy for herniated L4 & L5 and have not had a problem since. I’ve had no back pain at all, and have been able to do most anything physical that I wanted, including horseback riding and even the occasional horse wreck. The only meds I have taken since surgery are an occasional aspirin. Hopefully your results are even better than mine. Take care and get back in the saddle as soon as you can.
Ouch. Godspeed your recovery.
Buona fortuna!
I’ve suffered with lumbar issues as well. Nothing short of unconsciousness touches the pain.
Ugh....that’s painful to look at. Good luck and I hope you get better as soon as humanly possible.
Jeepers!! When your feet or your back hurts, then everything hurts.
Not even copious amounts of Jack Daniels can dull the edge on that. Still worth a try.
Get well soon!!
Praying for a successfully surgery and a speedy and complete recovery.
Damn! That looks exceedingly painful. Best wishes for a speedy recovery and complete healing.
stop wanking then. and get well soon
God damit where is that airfield?
HI Severa

We’ll keep the beer cold for ya’!
That’s a real hitch in yer giddyup, Skipper. All the best wishes for a speedy and full recovery!
YEOWCH! I don’t want to know how you got it that way! Hang in, good luck and heal fast.
Doc
Dang, Skipper—whatcha been doin to create this? Hmmm, I reckon that’s irrelevant, eh? A speedy recovery!
And to all you resident comedians: take it easy on the old boy; he won’t be able to take too many “side-splitters”!
Dadgum Skip, that’s a nasty one. Hope things get better fasterest, either through surgery or good chiropractic.
And when you’re back on your feet, stay on your feet. I’ve lost track of the number of IT folks with back trouble ... cuz we sit in the provided office chair for most of our waking lives. If you can’t DB standing up, at least get an Air Chair. They’re about the best thing out there and they adjust every which way.
Skipper my best for your surgery and recovery. You are on my prayer list.
That has to hurt! Get well soon Allan.
My thanks to you all. How it happened is a mystery (sort of). According to doc it’s just old age creeping up on me. At 58, things start to get a little wonky. I’ve always stayed in good physical shape in my life so recovery will be painful but short.
The only surprising thing to me is the level of pain. This is beyond anything I’ve ever encountered. I think of Rush Limbaugh and his whole oxycontin episode. Doctors hate to prescribe the stuff because it is so highly addictive and because it it also sold and abused on the street. Now, I read where the drug manufacturer is havign to pay a HUGE fine for not being more open about how addictive it is. Well ... DUH!
Anything that relieves this level of pain is naturally going to be addictive. It’s the inner child in all of us crying “Mommy, make the hurt go away, pwease!”
I decided to test the monkey last week, after being on this stuff for 10 days. I stopped taking it every 4 hours (as prescribed) - cold turkey. After a few hours the horrible pain came back so I played with ice packs and heat pads for a few days. They kept the pain down to a point where I could manage it - just barely. I went on for three days like this and could discern no mental craving. I knew it would be easier and more convenient to just take a pill than go through the hot baths and ice packs and manage the pain on my own but that’s the only difference.
We’re all built differently. There are some people who could probably take one pill and be hooked for life. I believe it’s all a product of your genes as much as it is the strength of the drug. Some people just have less will power than others. Drugs should be prescribed with that in mind.
As for the so-called “hard drugs” like cocaine, morphine and heroin (which I’ve never used) - that might be a different story ... for any of us. As for marijuana, yes I tried it back in the 1960’s and found it to be about as addictive as a soft drink. Never tried it since.
My attitude toward drugs is defined by my profession. The work I do is so highly complex and there is so much room for error that a clear head is the only way to succeed. I wouldn’t recommend any IT person try to upgrade a database, migrate it to a distributed cluster and start tuning it while puffing on a giant doobie ... unless your resume is up to date.
Hang in there Skipper. I’ll pray for your speedy recovery too. So Say We All.
I’ve got it!! It’s sooper seekrit Space Force Base FUBAR LUMBAR and it’s just North of Uranus!!!
What do I win???
Good luck Skipper.
