  1. *rolls in after a week of visiting family/friends in Louisville KY/New Albany IN*
Whew. Sorry I’d been away so long. Got back to MD last night around midnight, been putting away stuff/cleaning house most of the day.
Trying to get it done in time to ring in the New Year.
Just wanted to drop by and say have a happy and safe New Years’ Eve!

  2. Happy New Year everyone…

I’ve got the woodstove cranked up, it’s a nice toasty 27 deg C (80 F) in here, and I’m utterly enjoying it.

You’re welcome about the “Hanging around”.  Been a member here since Nov 24, 2004, and I expect to be for a good long time to come.

  3. Happy new year to you, thank you for the last 12 months and I look forward to the next 12. It was 9 farenheit as best today, the workshop was 75, back in England it will be brass monkeys where I used to work, I like it here (Ontario)

  4. Happy New Year to you all. We survived the invasion of kids and grandkids - they have all moved onto my ex’s (well, dang the two youngest are still here) - not quite all. I have no sheets nor no towels - they are all sitting in the basement to be washed - but alas the no food was #1 on the list to do this day. Actually yesterday I could have done it, but I was under the covers downing nyquil like juice to fight off the scourge of young childrens germs before I ended up sick for the entire winter.

We went from a balmy 67 on Christmas Eve to about 30 (or so they claim) with a wind chill down to like 16 or so - snow flaking most of the day.

The two cats are still the only ones suffering shell shock from the invasion - they still dart around the house expecting a half dozen people in all the rooms. Although they are enjoying taking the tinsel and ornaments off the tree by Friday, maybe my work will be done! My desk is a disaster - just piled with papers, mail and such - not to mention files that need to be year-end cleaned out - and my fav - balance the checkbooks.

But the new year (to be) has started out great - the dollars are flowing in - which is much nicer than flowing out!!!!

Take care, button up those overcoats and tip a toast to BEMEWS tonight at midnight - where ever you are.

  5. Happy New Year.

  6. Happy New Year to one and all at BMEWS.........It was only 20 degrees here in St. Louis today after 60 degrees yesterday - go figure this weather!!
Being the organized person that I am, I will spend New Years afternoon setting my printer to print out the spreadsheet from Quicken to get a head start on my tax workbook for 2008 as I generally get my taxes in to my accountant in early February.........Today I put together a sausage egg bake (it has to set overnight) to cook for New Year’s brunch along with fresh fruit - fattening, yes, but something I’ve made every New Year’s for many years........since I watch my diet & exercise religiously I figure one day is ok to pig out - back to Curves on Friday!!!
Drew & Peiper - I have enjoyed 2008 with you & look forward to an exciting 2009 on BMEWS......

  7. Pixie you’re so organized you’re frightening me. I’m still finishing up my Christmas shopping, and I think there’s still a bit of stuffing from Thanksgiving hiding in the back of the fridge!

Actually, I’ve spent the last couple of days pulling it all together. I’ve got the car registered, the insurance paid, the rent paid, the bills out - on time!, finally got through to the state police trooper who does the firearms ID forms so that is making progress, so on and so forth. About the only left to do is renew my membership to the gun club and match up a basket of socks and put them away.

New Year’s here will be nice and dull, just the way we like it. We scored some nice sushi fishi at the fish market today, and we’re having our own little sake party here. No driving, no loud people, no obnoxious drunks, just the two of us. Wink wink. And baby, it’s cold outside!

So a Happy New Year to all, and I will try to make Daily Posting one of my New Year’s Revolutions. Along with improving my bowling and finding a better job.

  8. Drew - Happy New Year.  I have not been able to find my former husband’s grandmother’s recipe for steak & kidney pie - however, if you have an old Good Housekeeping cookbook (mine is circa 1966) there is a recipe in it.  Let me know if you don’t have this cookbook & I will send the recipe from mine.
I have been enjoyng your bowling posts.  I have been on a women’s bowling league here in St. Louis since 1984.  I had to sit out the fall season due to back surgery but am now ready to resume play next week.  It is a morning league so it’s more social than the night leagues.......my team mates & I generally go out to lunch after league play............

  9. Happy New Year all!

Your local temperatures are impressive.  Here in L.A. the temperature is in the mid to high 40’s at night, 48 deg. F as I write.  One thing I like about So. Cal. is that our weather is never life threatening.

    Resolution:

Remain gainfully employed.  2008 wasn’t my best year for working.  I’m starting a new job as a tutor (math and English Comp) for the No Child Left Behind program.  The agency was impressed when I told them I wanted the students that scared the other teachers.  I’ve worked with hard case rejects before and I like them.  Now I’ll see what they give me.  I know the kids I’ll get are the rejects from the L.A. Unified School district.  That gives them a major handicap right there, that is L.A. Unified, not that they are rejects.

  10. "Fireworks will be starting in about an hour but unlike last year when it was very cold, this week has been FROZEN.”

    Damn that Global Warming.

Happy new Year peiper. And to all the rest of you folks. It’s been fun. Now let’s go start off ‘09 right by following the advice I once saw on a bumper sticker:

“Annoy a liberal: Work hard and be happy.”

  11. To all my fellow sheepdogs, woof woof.  The sheep-people screwed up big time in 08 and the wolves are licking their chops. Good luck to BMEWS this year as it does its thing in preserving our inalienable right to live free and pursue happiness.

  12. Kuso, you made it back to the USA? Your little flag thingy usually show Japan. If so, then welcome home! Find time to get to the range for some recoil therapy if you’re only over here for a couple weeks. Not much opportunity for that back in Tokyo.

Posted by Drew458    United States   01/01/2009  at  11:49 AM

  13. Thanks. It was time to come home. Living in Tokyo was great but no room to stretch. Relocated to Vegas where home prices are low and the second amendment is alive and well.

    WELCOME BACK AND WELCOME HOME.

  16. As for the weather, be glad you guys don’t live on the Gulf Coast. I love it here, but there’s something just WRONG about slappin mosquitos on Christmas and New Years.
