  1. Mrs T. was always a controversial figure. I think its rather pathetic all these maggots crawling out to celebrate her death. It says more about them than it does about Maggie. I well remember the 1970’s when the power was shut off at 8pm because the power stations had to ration coal. This was because the communist inspired unions (and this is no hyperbole, many of these bastards were paid cash by Moscow) had organised “flying pickets” So the power stations had miners threatening anyone delivering coal. In the 70’s we had companies like Rolls Royce, British Leyland, BP, British Airways etc. all owned by the state. I have a friend who worked for British Telecom who used to spend days hiding behind cardboard boxes playing cards rather than doing any work. They didn’t give a shit because the state picked up the tab. Little wonder you had to wait six months to get a phone installed. British Leyland built shitty cars that no one wanted to buy. The state even owned a removal firm called Pickfords.

Maggie saw how the unions had humiliated Heath the previous Tory leader. When the country finally had enough in 1979 and voted her in one of the first things she did was to make secondary picketing illegal. This set her up with a head on conflict with a low life communist scab called Arthur Scargill. The miners at this point were being paid to dig coal that no one wanted. The power stations could import coal from Australia for a fraction of what it cost to dig it out of the ground in Britain. Consequently they went on strike, but Maggie had the better of them. That’s why the left hate her because she beat them time after time. After she beat the shambolic Michael Foot Labour elected a horrible Welsh windbag called Kinnock. She used to have this clown tied in knots. He went on with his wife to become a millionaire with a job in the EU a typical champagne socialist. Maggie was stabbed in the back by the bed wetters in her party ultimately. She wasn’t perfect by a long shot but she made Britain a better place and much of what she said in the 80’s has come true. RIP Baroness Thatcher. The majority of Britain’s politicians would have to stand on their mother’s shoulders to kiss her arse.

  2. Well said L.
I never quite got the poll tax thing. It was of course mentioned in the papers today as one of the things and a major thing, that undid her. But I still didn’t understand it perhaps the way it was written. I mean, they are writing for a Brit audience who already knows the story. But I recall the strikes because they made news in the USA, and even 60 Minutes had a segment on the stranglehold the unions had. They even played a song called (I think) I’m a Union Man, part of which said they could not be sacked. It was we were told, a sort of anthem.

  3. The poll tax was a method that they thought would replace what was called “the rates” the equivalent in the US would be property taxes. Maggie had the idea that everyone should pay their fair share. What she objected to was for example a single person living in a big house paying the same as half a dozen people living in a small place. So they changed the rules so that if say three adults lived at an address they would pay the same each as one adult living on their own. The left of course hated it, as did students as it meant they would have to start paying where previously they had got off without paying anything. The “community charge” was fair, it was the left that dubbed it the poll tax and they organised a series of protests which were hijacked by the Socialist Workers Party and the same people who today cause riots at meetings by EDL or those that protested against fox hunting etc. The riots in London caused the bed wetters in the Tory party to wobble and they went back to the old corrupt system and it did damage Maggie’s reputation however what really undid her was the shitbag europhiles like Heseltine, Clark and Patten who know she would never sign up to Maastricht and they basically ousted her so that they could sell their country down the river.

  4. Lyndon that is a good précis there! I did wonder at the time of letting the simple minded robbers in local councils set the rate, Wandsworth played ball and it never went above 170 pounds but the libs and labs really stuck it to people, in Cornwall, a poor place it went over 370 a year each and she caught the political fallout, I suspect fighting the europhile assholes diverted too much of her attention!

  5. Chris that’s because people in Cornwall don’t tend to riot, whereas the heavily tanned population in shitholes like Wandsworth and Hackney would riot at the drop of a hat.

  6. Lyndon, I hate to be so dumb on the issue but. You said it was like property tax in the USA. That’s where my confusion is now. Because property tax back home is paid on the value of the property. So it wouldn’t matter if one or 12 were living at any given address. So then, are you saying that if five people were living at #1 Wishful Vista Dr. and the house were worth 100 dollars, that all five should have to pay property tax as opposed to just the owner of the property?  Hope I’m not looking too stupid here but that’s kinda how I read that.

  7. Jay your “rates” are paid essentially on your property value. The local council assess your property band and you pay proportionally. So at the bottom you pay for a Band A and it goes up from there. So let’s say you and your wife are in band B around here thats £1300 per annum so you and the wife pay £650 each le’ts say. This pays for libraries, Police, rubbish collection etc. Now if you were on your own you would pay £1300 but get the same service as say four adults living in a similar property, Maggie thought that was unfair and so do I. So she introduced the community charge so this way the four adults who all took advanatge of police, libraries etc. all paid towards it. The left didn’t like it and there were riots organised by our old chums the socialist workers party and scum like Ken Livingslime.
