  1. Not mentioned here is whether 7-11 gas will be sourced from Citgo distilleries. I would not be against it; there aren’t that many places that make gasoline and they already have the logistics set up. Just pop a big magnetic 7-11 label over the gas truck’s Citgo symbol and nobody would know.

  2. This is a great move. Now if Citgo can be removed as the gas station on most US military bases, that would be great.

  3. "bet against it”, not “be”. Too early in the AM for good typing.

  4. Anybody want to help me take down the CITGO sign near Fenway Park in Boston?

I’d love to get rid of that thing; where do we start?

  6. No Local 7-11’s here unfortunately, they dissappeared from the local area around 10-20 years ago for some reason..

  7. here’s another article with the Distributors they will be purchasing their gas from
    http://www.nctimes.com/articles/2006/09/28/business/news/21_29_049_27_06.txt
a few snippits from the artucle are below…

“Instead, 7-Eleven, which sells gasoline at 2,100 of its 5,300 U.S. stores, will now purchase fuel from several distributors, including Tower Energy Group of Torrance, Sinclair Oil of Salt Lake City, and Houston-based Frontier Oil Corp.”

“"This has nothing to do with Chavez,” said Oil Price Information Service director Tom Kloza. “They (7-Eleven) just didn’t want to be tied to one supplier.”

Kloza said all 7-Eleven did was seek out suppliers who could sell it the cheapest fuel and “that was not Citgo.”

  8. Knurled-- To answer your question, the first step would be shutting off the gas pipes that enable the neon tubes in the sign to light up. Then we’d need to disconnect the neon tubes themselves. After that, the job of dismantling the steel framework which houses the sign would need to be assigned to a competent welding crew. And last but not least, we’d need to send a demolition team to knock down the posts that hold the sign up.

  9. A spokesman for “7-Eleven in Iraq” has said “Anyone who moves against our friend Hugo Chavez will be beheaded!” Osama bin Huffin said further that a picture of gasoline flowing into a tank did not spell out “Muhammed likes camels,” in Arabic, as purported before this weekend’s angry riots in 12 Muslim contries that took over 100 lives. Rather, it says “Mohammed rides camels.” Pointing out the obvious, “There really is a big difference,” he said.

  10. wouldn’t a shotgun to the neon tubes at least dim the sign at night? maybe add some paint guns to cover whats left? The local Bostonians fought to keep it from being dismantled in 1983.. too bad they actually were listened to..

  11. But no Neon Tubes anymore.. It was retrofitted in 2005 with A LED Display...according to this site http://www.redsoxconnection.com/citgo.html

    “2005 Renovation
Today the Citgo sign looks better than ever, thanks to a $1 million refurbishment that took six months to complete and was finished on March 17, 2005. Paid for by the Citgo Petroleum Corporation, the Boston landmark sign had its neon lights replaced with a light-emitting diode (LED) display.

The sign still looks the same as it has since 1965, but the LED tubes won’t deteriorate in the New England winter, making the sign easier to maintain. LED is also brighter and more intense than neon, and the increased energy efficiency has cut the sign’s electric bills in half.

The Citgo sign still makes news. In September 2006, a Boston city councilor proposed taking it down after Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez called George Bush “the devil” in a speech made to the United Nations. Citgo has been a wholly owned subsidiary of the Venezuelan state oil company since 1990. “

  12. SOB !!
My Toyota won’t run on the cheapest grade… but is a BOMB on
    the next up grade.
Tried the top grade twice, and no difference noted.

Problem.  Citgo is the best gasoline for my car.  It’s amazing !!

But it runs decent enough on other brands, so I can do without Citgo.

  14. No 7-11’s in my area either, Infinity.  They were all replaced by Circle-K’s a number of years ago.

I’d like to see them back.  In the last one I visited, the clerk could actually speak English.  Don’t often have that luxury in convenience stores these days.  I’m lucky when I find someone who can speak pidgin.

And I’ve been thinking gorilla when I see “citgo” for some time now.  His latest outburst didn’t surprise me in the least.

    wink

  15. ohh and the crazy thing is for the moment you can use citgo’s location finder to find 7-11’s in your area.. and it works a lot better then 7-11’s search.. the 1 there only works on city name.. the citgo 1 allows you to say 20 mile radius and such.. I’m sure they will remove the 7-11’s soon though. but right now they promote it saying to search for citgo’s and 7-11’s in your area..

seems citgo has changed the text on the locator today and put the press release about the split on their homepage.. but the locator still has 7-11 locations with the citgo 1’s…

  16. you can also search for 711s in a mile radius of your trip route courtesy of citgo.. I would do this quickly if you have trips planned though.. as they will probaly be removing the 711 locations pretty soon(since they knew the relationship would be ending in june I’m not sure why they didn’t remove them then..

  17. Macker, I just noticed what I used to think was a simple Citgo triangle, looking closer is actually an Arab Egyptian Pyramid as seen from an aerial view!! This should get the conspiracy wing nuts working overtime!  cool smirk

  19. Except an egyptian pyramid has four sides, and is not a tetrahedron.

Good thinking, anyway… Connect the dots, follow the money
and watch for the all-seeing eye (tinfoil beanie alert).

Citgo’s symbol is known as the ”Trimark." As far as who built those pyramids, the Egyptians built them, and sure as hell not the Arabs!
