Interesting point and actually right on the money.
When I see some kid on a bike, no helmet, and riding on the side of the road, I give him a wide berth as I pass. But, when I see a guy all decked out in the latest color coordinated riding gear, flags on his bike, and wind tunnel designed helmet, I don’t give him as must room when I pass. I guess I figure he’s experienced and will stay to the side of the road.
When you “feel” safe, you let your guard down.
