  1. Is this the protected ocean sanctuary that I heard about roughly 6 years ago or is it another one?

If you’re a liberal/green/moonbat/Democrat, you may never admit that GWB did something good.  Nothing he does is ever good.  It must all be bad and everyone must join the the chant of “Bush bad, Bush bad....” that has replaced rational debate.

The creation of the protection zones will be seen by many as an attempt by President Bush to secure an environmental legacy. His Administration has been heavily criticised for its reluctance to cut carbon emissions, its granting of permission to drill for oil in formerly protected offshore areas of Alaska and its moves to weaken endangered species

How hypocritical of him to protect a rare part of the environment.

Environmentalists welcomed the decision although some said that the monuments could be protected more effectively. Critics pointed out that the Marianas zone extended only 50 miles from the islands, not the 200 miles that they had lobbied for, and that only the waters between the ocean floor and the rim of the Mariana Trench would be off limits, leaving fishermen free to work the upper reaches. The US military will also continue to operate in all three areas.

I never thought of 50 miles as being a short distance and I’m having trouble understanding why allowing fishing up to the edge of the protected area is a problem.  Since GWB can never do anything right, the enviroweenies are looking to Osama the Magnificent to give them what they want.

Agnes McPhetres, former president of the Northern Mariana College, said: “We’re not going to stop now. Once \ Obama gets in we’re going to keep pushing. We need these waters to be fully protected.”

There’s really no problem with criticism, but criticism and credit must both be given as due.
