When I was a kid, I never understood the rationale behind telling kids “Eat your food, there’s starving children in China.” I mean, ok, so they’re starving, but the okra on my lunch plate won’t help them one way or the other - I was not starving and so didn’t need to eat it, and it would spoil before I could send it to China. So why did I have to eat that nasty stuff?
Whenever I posed that question though, I kinda got in trouble… Wasn’t supposed to think it through, I guess. Either that, or I was being punished for not feeling guilty about throwing away the okra…
This assumes that the kid will have a job for someone else to starve for.
And anyway, he’ll probably want to be a lawyer. Too many of them do.
I have a client that hires his personel in India to record medical records for hospitals. It’s all done by the internet. He said, “I could use Americans for $12 an hour, plus benefits, or use Indians for $100 a month. Besides, half of the hospital’s doctors are from India to begin with so the Indians I hire understand what what these American-Indian doctors are talking about.”
I like the Americans too.
An Indian doesn’t know what, “Are you hozing me?” even means.
So as long as we are alive OCM, Americans will have jobs.
I also think the Canadians are the best with our lingo.
Indian doctors say, “ined a samle ofur ureen.”
Translated: I need a sample of your urine.
I have the same problem with MCI operators. I speak American, pretty well I think, but the last few encounters I have had with the MCI operators have ended in wrong numbers. I guess customer service only means having some one answer the phone.
Hey, OCM. I hope that your surgery goes well on Monday. I dare sat most of us here at BMEWS, wish you well and a speedy recovery.
God bless.
I have a different take on this. I’m all for globalization. I mean, to be otherwise is to admit to being blind, deaf, and dumb.... but I’m for it anyway. I appreciate the hell out of some Indian, Pakistani, or anyone else taking the trouble to learn English, to learn computers, and to put up with rude Americans who need their computers fixed. These people learned how to fix computers so well they’re troubleshooters on top of troubleshooting in a ‘foreign’ language to meatheads.
What’s wrong with people trying to better themselves and to work damn hard to do it.
Whenever I get a foreign operator, I’m really nice because I’m thinking the whole time...’Man, you’re the dude...I couldn’t do what you’re doing.’ I’d no more be rude than cut my finger off. Who the hell am I?
As well, you can’t blame APPLE.... they do this and keep the prices down for us. It’s all a part of global capitalization and I refuse to be a retard about it. It’s all for the good. Win Win..
CAT,
In no way do I condone any kind of rudeness from the service sector. That’s not what I was talking about. I agree with you there. I’ve never encountered a rude overseas operator, but I have here in the states. As far as APPLE’s prices - how can you say that? Of course they’re going up - just like everything else goes up. But it could be they’d go up a WHOLE LOT MORE if they had to pay for troubleshooters in the U.S. If I can’t live with the minor inconvenience of an operator who doesn’t know American idioms, then I ask for another. Not that computer fixing needs idiomatic language for crying out loud.
Yeah, phone bills suck.
