  1. (The Weakest Link)
    CLASSICS

ANNE ROBINSON: What was the principal language used by the ancient Romans?

    CONTESTANT: Greek.

This is possibly correct, depending on how you define ‘ancient Romans’. If you use the term to include all inhabitants of the Roman Empire, I think it is true that Greek was more prevalent than Latin.

  2. Interesting to read this sort of stuff from a British perspective. The US has had several such books published, but they aren’t game show answers, they are high school student answers to tests.

I found myself challenged by several myself. Walloons? My answer would have been Belgium. But I’m not certain, could be Hungary.

Prime Minister before Tony Blair? Beats me. John somebody? Major? While I’m certain that Thatcher was pre-Blair, I’m also certain there were one or two in between.

Prince Charles’ younger sister? Don’t know. Don’t care. But the answer is hilarious. The Family that plays together…

Most of the rest were easy. At least for me.

  3. Walloons? My answer would have been Belgium.

I believe that’s right and it was my guess as well. In fact, I’m certain.
PM before Blair I think was John Major.

One of the VERY wrong answers tho was given by a highly educated man. I’d have to go back and look. Can’t remember and it was only today.

  4. Forgot .... Principal language would have been Latin if we’re talking ancient Rome and referring to Roman born citizens as opposed to conquered peoples.

Just happen to be reading the subject on and off last few nights (and days while stuck in bed feeling blah with cold.) Apparently the better educated and it includes the women, were very much multi lingual.
