A tax on life saving pharmaceuticals? This is a great idea! I was sitting around wondering how I was going to finance my retirement. Now I know. Smuggling antibiotics from untaxed countries to taxed ones. It’s genius. The drugs themselves are already legal and the borders are demonstrably unsecure. I’ll have a front called “Meds For Kids”. If I get caught I can always get a free pass by speaking the magic liberal code phrase, “But, It’s For The Chiiillldddrrreeennn!!!” and be home free. Then sell to the highest bidder. I’d be like Al Capone. But with penicillin. And better looking.
Funny how I didn’t read the little niggling part that here in America one reason MRSA and the one going around the burn unit when my son was in (can’t remember it right now) - for decades antibiotics were the drug of choice for way too many diseases and way too many docs/parents. Rather than suffer through minor un-comfort for a week or two (usual course of most minor disease) Americans become soft and have bought into the ‘Pop a Chocks’ behavior. And now there is a pill for everything and everything needs a pill. And of course let us not forget the other main reason that disease is now and issue again in America and becoming resistant to drugs (which of course the gov & media would never, ever mention nor connect) - Illegal Immigrants. Never forget that Immigration control used to be about screening for disease.
And of course it would follow that the gov (now taking over Big Pharma, Big Insurance and of course Big Medicine) would find a way to screw it up, tax it even more and of course ration the heck out of it.
P. - Possible, very possible - I remember my Mom & her friends using my Mom’s Canadian cousins and running to Canada to get codeine in the late 70s since it was still OTC there but by script only here. Don’t ever remember her getting caught.
OCM,
But, she’d have never gotten it if she’d taken her medicine as prescribed.
Mom did worse than not take her medicine, she waited 3 days until her ‘favorite pharmacy’ had the drug prescibed in stock.
If you were diabetic suffering from a foot infection, and your ‘favorite pharmacy’ was out of your prescribed drug, don’t you think you would simply fill the prescription at another pharmacy? No less than 4 pharmacies were within easy reach at the time.
Now, of course, without a leg, no pharmacy is within easy reach.
Guess it’s a mixed blessing; Mom and I spend a lot of time together as I take her, her wheelchair, and her oxygen tank, shopping. Now she tells me all kinds of stuff she wouldn’t tell me when I was a kid.
The older we get the smarter we think we are.....and the more set in our ways we become.
Interesting variation.
I used to think that the older I got, the smarter my parents became. Obviously at some point the law of diminishing returns takes effect.
How many times have we been lied to by these bastards? How many phony pandemics have they declared? How much sensationalist bullshit are we willing to swallow? Evil pricks should be in prison, not dictating our healthcare.
The whole idea is for the “government” to control the rest of us. After all, we just can’t be permitted to think for ourselves. That’s the “liberal” line.
It’s typical for the current crop of “liberals” to take an issue and frame it so that only the wiser heads (unconnected to the people who actually deal with the problem, in this case the pharmaceutical companies and the medical community) can tell us how to solve our problems.
It’s easy enough to see that antibiotic resistant microbes are a problem. It’s been regularly reported in the press. Some of us have even had direct experience of the problem. It’s also easy to understand that the pharmaceutical companies will follow their profits and develop new classes of drugs to combat those microbes. All that’s required is for Big Brother to butt out and let people who know what they are doing do their jobs.
That’s free market reality. Our political reality is that if “liberals” can keep the proletariat scared enough, they will dictate just what we are allowed to do. They will dictate who will live and who will be refused the medications and die.
I hate being treated like a mindless pawn.
So much for my rant. I hope some of it makes sense.
Well Frankly I Love liberals. I love them as BBQ, on toast with jelly and of course, Fricasseed.
They are also a good substitute for the fall hunting season when the birds aint flyin and the rabbits are all hidin.
BTW Gang, If your lookin for a really good flik to plop in the ol DVD player, check out The new version of ‘Alice in Wonderland’ and for the more wierd taste (like Mine) try out ‘District 9’. Even better if you got a new BluRay player.
