  1. Umm, mine (referral) is on my desk - I begged off the first time (they actually called me) - as in Sept my (gov) medical insurance got all screwed up - lil miss military said she’d put me into deers - didn’t. I might get around to it (but I also had to cancel my well woman) - been seen twice this year - that is one time too many for me. I don’t want to go to the more personally invasive exams. I miss the army - they schedule those that you need (such as a yearly well woman, mammo) and blithly ignore the rest (which is why I never took statins - they could have cared less about the follow-up lab tests). Now it (referrals - 7 between 3 people) sits on my desk - when I’m in a risk taking mood, I’ll call one (the ones for the 2 kids (both adults) will of course, come first)!!!

Don’t you just hate it when you’re the one going through something and someone not feeling what you are tells you how well you’re doing.

Woke up twice during surgery, plus a local (stitches in hand) gone before half done - man that should be a real red flag warningthat I don’t have the ‘same’ requirement for sedation that others have. Still they tsk, tsk me - that I don’t have a clue. Damn I’ve been in this body every dang second for 53 years - bet I know it better than you, Dr Man.

  2. Voltaire (I think it was) wrote something about doctors giving medicine of which they knew little to patients they knew not at all.  ??  Something like that.

When I had my back surgery, I started coming around a little too early. WOW! They put me back under pretty darn quick but gosh did I feel it in the seconds before they did.
But that was a lot different from some sort of guideline or regulation from the Feds. I think.  Not really certain anymore.

Can’t imagine how ppl survived primitive surgery say on battlefields hundreds of years ago.
Heck, I don’t understand how any ever survived the wounds or took the pain.

Re. Statins. Been seeing discouraging articles lately.  Some saying that folks my age do not benefit and in fact statins could do harm.  Oh great.  Been on em for years.

If they’d had em a long time ago, Marty Robbins might have survived, poor man.  His body just produced cholesterol in spite of fitness programs and diets and exercise etc.

My mom died of colon cancer age 68, so I’m aware but never was before she became ill with it.  Then too, there are ppl who just never do get checkups at all and go on and on and on.
Of course, their quality of life is nowhere.  They have none.  I am amazed as are the care givers here, with the continuing life in the mil. Nobody knows how or why her organs haven’t aged and given out. Well they’ve aged of course but I mean she’s had no exams till the fall she had, and everything is working fine. Go figure. She’s 93.  Meanwhile some guy had a stroke and died yesterday at 50.  Kids in teens, no drugs or anything, just bad luck and gone at 16 and 17.  Maddening.  I need to do a post on that,

  4. What? Was he gonna ask me for my opinion on the American election?

Sorry P I know it’s wrong but that bit did make me laugh. Having recently had a similar NHS experience I would say “I feel your pain” I wouldn’t mind so much, but for the arrogance of some of the “consultants” who are patronising beyond belief.

  5. My Colonoscopy was done thru a well known HMO on the west coast.
The only unpleasant part of the Proceedure was they waited until I was actually in the OR before they gave me the Consent form to read and Sign. Unfortunately I was unable to read the form as I had surrendered my glasses in the Prep Cubicle along with my street clothes.
I would say that in my case It was NOT Informed consent. Advice, Hang onto your Glasses until someone asks you for them.
