  1. Didn’t he take the gun from a girl? question

Posted by Z Woof    United States   03/12/2005  at  02:48 PM

  2. In THIS case Allan, it will be a better thing if a trial ensues. It will bring pressure to fore re security and the judiciary. The details of this coming trial will be the outline of a better system.

And on a completely different subject ...
WTF are you doing putting a scope on a 30/30?

If you can’t reach out 100 yds with it, it ain’t
goin’ any further and you’ll need a new prescription
for your glasses not a scope.

  3. Yes, a 6’1”, 200 lb. former football player took a gun from a female deputy who was 5’5”, 110 lb. The prisoner was not handcuffed or shackled. The female deputy was absolutely no match for this creep.

  4. Steel, my eyes are almost shot. Even with glasses, 100 yards is a difficulty due to 40/400 vision in both eyes. On my last visit to the eye doctor, he told me there was nothing further he could do. Therefore, a scope is almost a necessity at any range beyond 75 yards. Old age really sucks.

  5. Allan, I am legally blind at 20/800. My best with correction is 20/150. I’ll cut ya
some slack amigo, but since you’re still
driving I KNOW ya got 20/150. If ya wanna
put a scope on somethin’ ... put it on a
.270. And buy a StreetSweeper. If it’s for
the range ... get used to a 20 guage ‘slide
rifle’ with slugs. Me personally, I like
the Henry 44MAG Model 94 and The AutoMag
and a Thompson Contender with a scope. 44MAG
of course. And then run Hot Shot every other
round. Can’t miss amigo. Bring earplugs.

  6. Hello :o)

New to the site—and if you’ll permit a small digression (well, maybe lengthy, dunno yet *S*)—this blog is without doubt one of the BEST on the ‘Net. Frankly, it’s kept me sane more than once in the short time I’ve been visiting (and that’s a task, what with moonbattery and all chiseling busily away at it *S*)—and not only that, performed a valuable personal physical service in the toned abs I’ve gotten from laughing so hard at some of the posts!

And, of course, its hosts are handsome gents on whom I’ve got a monster crush *simper* :o)

    /shameless toadying off *S*

    And now on topic --

Allan, a good deal of my relatives live in northern Virginia, and went through the same ordeal when the snipers were roaming the area. My best friend, who also lives there, literally ducked down when she was forced to go out and gas up her car. In a way, it’s almost as bad for those of us who agonize with worry over them. I thank God they caught that slime (AND the others).

My feeling is that we ought to keep the (yes, moonbat-driven) protocol in place, of more or less dressing up what are usually wastes of skin, in pretty clothes for the jury, and taking off their shackles—because after all, one of the reasons we’re Americans is because we do try to make ourselves as neutral as possible when judging our fellow humans (and in most cases, that title was forfeit the minute they did their crimes, if you ask me, but still ...)—

Having said that, however, I think with a dangerous guy like that, more than one deputy ought to have been assigned to him, at least one of whom ought to have been male. (This coming from a veteran of the Army, who, nonetheless, is female, and know I probably couldn’t have handled that person by myself either).

Anyway ... judging from the Batgirl pic, there’s nothing wrong with your eyes that I can see *S* (geeze, what wouldn’t I give to have those muscles!)

Thanks once again for this awesome site—you guys ought to be knighted :o)

  7. Hello-o-o-ooo to you, too, Yankette!

You can “toady” up as much as you like because we LOVE being toadied up to.  heh heh!

Glad you like the blog!  Pick yourself up an avatar and join the fun.

Posted by Vilmar    United States   03/12/2005  at  03:39 PM

  8. "Handsome gent”? “Monster crush”? Aw shucks, ma’am. Y’all are gonna give me a big head.  smile

Posted by The Skipper    United States   03/12/2005  at  03:47 PM

  9. Allan, If I wore a hat I would not remove it right now.  My head might explode.  grin

Posted by Vilmar    United States   03/12/2005  at  03:52 PM

  10. It is all I can do to restrain myself from
    the obvious. So I won’t.

    Welcome aboard young lady.

Pull up a soapbox and let’s talk.

  11. Allan and Vilmar,

Your paying Yankette, right? Handsome gents? Monster crush? You need to start giving some options for the vision impaired on this site. This woman is obviously blind as a bat… Hummm… Maybe she is the bat woman! Oh I am so excited!  tongue

Posted by Yellow Dog    United States   03/12/2005  at  05:20 PM

  12. Thanks for the warm welcome! smile I wish I’d known this site was here sooner—honestly, it feels a bit like coming home to find like minds—honestly, some “people” ...

I chose the Spock avatar on account of I’m a hopeless Original Star Trek fan, and, of course, have always had a monster crush on Spock (must learn to manage these crushes *S*). My guy keeps trying to convince me to give the “next generation” a chance, but, nahh (even if Gene Roddenberry DID give it his stamp).

And “Yankette” refers to the fact that I lived in England for 3 years (enduring all manner of anti-Americanism, which I threw back, thankyouverymuch, but also made some lifetime friends of some very cool Britons)—it’s kind of a defiance thing, I guess—proud to be a Yank(ette) :o)

  13. This is a great place, with many vision impaired old men with firearms. Don’t dress like a deer when visiting this site. Allan, the clock on your server is off by an hour. cool hmm

Posted by Yellow Dog    United States   03/12/2005  at  05:29 PM

  14. The time seems to be OK now. My last post on this page said 6:20ET, I swear. Did you just fix something or am I hallucinating?

Posted by Yellow Dog    United States   03/12/2005  at  05:32 PM

  15. You’re hallucinating again. Next question ....

    LOL

Posted by The Skipper    United States   03/12/2005  at  05:35 PM

  16. I was afraid about that… I think I will go shoot something…

Posted by Yellow Dog    United States   03/12/2005  at  05:38 PM

  17. Speaking of which_
it just came over the wire that some nutbag in Wisconson fired up a church service , then shot himself.

    http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=519&e=2&u=/ap/hotel_shootingnull

WTF is that?  I have never been able to understand why there are these individuals that lash out against people that have never done them measurable harm. It is has bothered me ever since that crazy old man killed all those people at that MacDonald’s in here in San diego where I live, back in ‘81.
no one has ever been able to explain to me, to my satisfaction why they do that. Yhis nichols character i can at least understand; he was desparate to escape. but something like this… or what happened in Hobart, Tasmania back in ‘96… I dunno. Maybye I’m just naive.

All I do know is that such incidents give the gun-grabbers more leverage to punish the many for the misdeeds of the few.

Posted by Lucius Severus Pertinax    United States   03/12/2005  at  07:09 PM

  18. Less than 2% of gun-related crimes are committed by registered gun owners. Those are official FBI figures. Case closed.

Posted by The Skipper    United States   03/12/2005  at  07:15 PM

  19. Yankette!  Welcome!

Thank God! another female who thinks Allan and Vilmar are HOT...we just may need to start a club wink

I concur, both are handsome gentlemen, with big brains wink

I can honestly say this is the ONLY blog that has ever increased my *moisture content*! I have Allan and Vilmar to thank
    grin

Big brains...hot diction and! multisybillic...what more could a girl want ?? wink

  20. Allan: re: #4 - I have a real problem too with bi(tri)focals. I can see either the rear sight, front sight or the target; but not all of them at once with iron sights - especially with handguns, (Combat) IPSC. But I lucked out and found an optician (also a shooter) who cut a 1/8” X 3/4” diopter in the upper inside corner of my glasses that splits the difference between the bifocal diopters. It’s a passable solution if you can find somone to do it. Mind you he died and I had to resort to:

The other option that you might want to look into are “pilot’s” glasses for shooting. Normal bifocals have the lower crescent for close and the upper ‘clear part for ‘looking far’. These have a lower and upper diopter with a ‘look far’ center. It’s for airline pilots who need to see the gauges and switches above their heads in todays cockpits and they’re both the same on each side. Trouble is, you look like a goof wearing them and get asked all sorts of stupid questions....(but not from other shooters. Heh.)
And you’re right - it sucks to be a-gittin’ old. (Damned arthritis!)
