Drew,
Tough news about your friend, I’ll say a prayer! I live about 30 mi. SE of Atlanta, on the edge of country. I’ve hit one deer ( $4000+ damage ), and another hit me ( $1750+ damage ). My wife hit one ( $2500+ damage ), so we know what you’re talking about!! Please keep us posted on how she’s doing.
Mike and Ruthie
Thank you. I’ve got to get her a card in the AM. I didn’t even know until today. You know how it is; you live right next to people but you don’t see them sometimes for a couple weeks and that’s normal. But today was Primary Day, so I went and voted, and since our township is so small - 43 voters from our section for the whole day - I sat and chatted with the election worker ladies, who are also friends, neighbors, and customers of mine. That’s how I learned. By the time I got back home, her mom had left for the day. Not sure where the kids are tonight, maybe with her ex. So I’ll stop by tomorrow.
A plague on all deer in NJ. Them and their darn deer ticks, messing up the woods.
I love riding bikes and have been doing so since I was 16 but they are high risk. I hope your friend recovers and gets back in the saddle. Make sure you do your bit to keep the deer scourge at bay this Fall Drew. I trust you will be out their with the rifle!
Yes, keep us informed. I’ve ridden once, not a fan of much that is open and subject to great injury. My brother always promised that when he walked away from an accident, he’d get rid of the bike - well, he didn’t walk for a few months after someone pulled out right in front of him - but he did sell the bike. I noticed, very quietly after my d-i-l got pregnant, they sold their bikes. I did once have a friend’s bike fall on me - tore up my fingers and hand, keeping that puppy from hitting the ground.
The deer - wow is all I can say - I haven’t seen a single one here since early last winter. Although this spring already we’ve had a raccoon at the back door and a snake at the front door and a new cat has taken up residence in the back yard. Not much offerings this year for the wildlife - the asparagus is already fanning, the fruit trees have almost nothing on them and the other garden beds are covered in plastic - we went from monsoon to hideously hot in two nanoseconds.
Which is why we are now re-doing the house to move all my Mom’s stuff into the basement. Starting to par down the bills - start with the one we do not need to have at all. Moved all our books upstairs and will just build a wall of boxes downstairs. It appears that the lawyer has no intention what-so-ever of settling this at all - so we can’t keep a stupid storage unit going until this is over. Next will be cable and phones.
Who knew that IT would not be a hot job venue for a Veteran? Oh well, we are still making it and the freezer is full of meat, glorious meat - so we will eat until the end of this month. Fixed the cars with our tax refund. So we are good-to-go, hunkered down in our own little piece of hell on earth.
Drew - I will be sending you a pic (I am THE TECHNO Idiot) that you should post - too true and too funny.
Back when I was riding in the 70s and 80s in Ohio, deer were the #2 killer of bikers in the Midwest. Have to say I was always more worried about being hit by a human.
I do have a sister-in-law who lived in the country and has had 4 cars totaled by deer.
Prayer has been sent.
There hasn’t been anyone there for the last 2 days, so I can’t get any kind of an update. I haven’t forgotten. Two other neighbors called me up, asking what was going on. Wish I could tell them more than what was in the newspaper.
