  1. Here’s my favorite Lee Marvin song:

    Since part of my heritage is Hungarian {Gypsy, per my maternal grandmother} - “I never seen a sight that didn’t look better lookin’ back”

  3. Will do Diamond. You must be somewhat new. I don’t recognize the handle, and yes, you can’t embed in the comments.

    Now see, that’s why Paint Your Wagon is my favorite musical. I clicked on his link and what do I get?

    I was born under a Wandrin’ Star
    Wheels are made for rollin’
    Mules are made to pack
    I’ve never seen a sight that didn’t look better lookin’ back!

    My wife hates to watch this with me. I first saw this Christmas of ‘69. Loved it then as a nine-yr-old. I’ve got the whole show memorized.

  4. I just noticed you are Gypsy? Called ‘Travelers’ in Britain?

    Diamond, have you ever read Brian Lumley’s Necroscope books?

    ‘Travelers’ and ‘Gypsies’ play a large role in those books.

    Just curious. I find my taste in reading material is somewhat ‘eccentric’ according to my neighbors. Ergo, I’ve no one to discuss my reading with. Even my wife, who usually does read the stuff, picks up on it several years after I did. It’s like, if I recommend it, she’ll go out of her way to avoid reading it.

    Sigh…

    I’ve yet to meet any Brian Lumley readers. Somebody reads him; his books are still carried in the bookstores.

  5. Oh come on Chris, you know you can always comment on your books here. We’ve got dozens of them in common, and probably many of the other readers as well.

    I read some book about a year ago ... The Last Oracle by Rollins? Part of the story involved those people, and he wrote that their ancestry goes back to northern India. I looked it up, and he was pretty much correct. But I don’t want to get Peiper’s blood pressure spiking, so I’ll say (and hope that some actual English readers will correct me if wrong) that I don’t think the Travellers there are Romany people at all. The ones in the USA are all Irish.

  6. I have it memorized, too, though I’m a few years older than you ...................... yeah, on my mother’s side, we hail from Czechoslovakia, Hungary & Germany - on my Dad’s we’re Irish, English & Scottish - just call me a Heinz 57 mutt {had a guy (pure Italian, both sides) break up with me because of my ....................... ‘colorful’ family history) ..................... it’s possible I’m Legs Diamond’s granddaughter; my maternal grandmother was a bookie & a numbers runner in Philly}

    I’ve seen Lumley’s books, but haven’t picked any up yet - will look for them.

    I’ve been “around” for years, but back when the Skipper {God rest his soul} got a mad on at somebody, my ISP was blocked .......................
