The End Of The Road

  1. Drew, you have my deepest heartfelt sympathy.

I’m a happy, content, retired, life-long heterosexual bachelor roughly the same age as you. Over my life I have heard many, many, many married men fervently state, “I often wish I had never married.” I’ve seen friend after friend (damned near all of them!) painfully divorced, emotionally destroyed, and financially ruined.

But I have never - NEVER - ever heard a bachelor of any age EVER state, “I sometimes with I’d gotten married.”

Obviously I speak from ignorance, but I have never quite understood the reasoning (by males - and with apologies to the ladies) for marriage - especially nowadays - even though I’ve asked close friends many times over my long life. All I’ve been able to discern is that, “The heart has reasons that Reason knows nothing of...”

I doubt it’ll do you any good, and you may not be able to consider it now, and you may be offended (I hope not), but if this split of your happens, you may - in a year or a few - actually end up happier. I’ve seen that, too. Often. I certainly hope so for you.

Stay the course on the smoking and weight loss if you can. It does get easier. Then it gets to be a pleasant personal achievement you can be proud of as long as you stick with it.

    Please forgive my presumption…

    best wishes…

  2. Sorry to hear it - truly. Been there myself. Words don’t really help at a time like this, but hopefully it will be of some comfort to know that there are people who are thinking good thoughts for you.

And I second the comment above re: staying the course on smoking and weight.

    Hang in there, buddy.

  4. Sorry Drew.  Been there, done that.  I’ve been alone since 1986 and my life is much better for it.  Hope it doesn’t damage you too much.  Well done for hanging in there.

  5. I hear Stallones Mom might be avaliable. That’s right,Humor, even Bad humor is always best in situations like this.Us men folk should never get all maudlin about girl stuff. That’s what they do to cope.We get drunk and go to strip clubs and sh_t. That is all.

  6. Drew, it’s a matter of perception. Innit?  I mean, “lifelong partner” being gay.
I never thought of that term as belonging to that group or at least exclusively.

I’ve read obits of hetros who have been described as leaving a lifelong partner who was of either sex. Although yeah, if Tom dies and leaves partner David then in that circumstance we’d guess correctly, more then likely, that both were that way inclined.

    Hang in there friend.
    What’s that expression?
Time wounds all heels?  Somethin along those lines. But I don’t think Stallones’s mom would be suitable for a quiet guy like you. She’s too much a party animal. And she does not strike me as bowling girl at all.
