I know a precious little girl, Taylor. Her father and my husband worked together on submarines. Taylor is quadriplegic and is fed through a feeding tube. Doesn’t speak.
That don’t matter to me because she has a smile that’d blind an angel when you walked into her room.
Terri is being made to die because her husband is forsaking his wedding vows (in sickness and in health, forsaking all others...) and instead of divorcing her, he’s tossing her aside like such unwanted garbage.
The only comfort I can take in this case is that Terri will soon ascend into Heaven to be with God and the angels, her body will be restored to her and she will be free from pain for all eternity.
Judge Greer and Michael Schiavo on the other hand…
In “The German Wars 1914-1945” (New York: Bonanza Books, 1985), D.J. Goodspeed observes:
“In the ‘liberal’ societies of the West the eunuchs are inheriting the earth. This can be seen in a new and excessive tenderness toward criminals, in the abolition of capital punishment, in the rejection of all forms of discipline, and in a softness that denounces the validity of all objective standards and the renunciation of all sanctions. The process is a reciprocating one: the questioning of values leads to the abandonment of sanctions, and the weakening of sanctions leads to the rejection of values. Nor is it surprising that the softness that has crept over the West since 1945 has been accompanied by cowardice and cruelty, the hallmarks of the soft. It is no accident that the same states that refuse to put a murderer to death have generally been ready to encourage the murder of unborn innocents. Morality has been stood on its head in the name of compassion, but now, as formerly, society can readily be divided into the hardhearted kind and the softhearted cruel....”
The emphasis is mine.
The innocence of the unborn is self-evident and inarguable.
So is the innocence of one whose fate, through no fault of his or her own, lies totally in the hands of others.
The “softhearted cruel” can be counted on to behave similarly in both instances. The remedy is obvious.
Excellent post, Vilmar. I would do the same thing as you, your aunt and mother. What I don’t understand is why a criminal investigation was never conducted of Michael Schiavo. I mean, he was alone with Terri when she collapsed. And healthy women don’t suddenly become brain disabled. I’ve read that the Schindlers believe he tried to strangle Terri. What about the reports of all the bone fractures? And to top it all off, Michael wants Terri cremated. It’s obvious he’s trying to hide something. I just don’t understand how any judge, much less the Supreme Court, could side with this man.
I have a question. Is it possible that the ACLU and other right to die groups have been bribing all these judges and the Supreme Court Justices? That’s what it seems like to me. And at this point, I hate them all for condemning an innocent disabled woman to death.
There’s a Talumdic saying that goes something like this:
“He who is merciful to the cruel becomes cruel to the good people.” Or something to that effect.
I’ve posted before on the evils of starvation so this is ripping me to shreds.
This is nothing more than legalized murder!
Btw-I’ve heard that Michael Schiavo is dening Terri final communion because it’s “by mouth”.
I’ve also heard that M.S. is going to deny Terri’s parents the chance to give her a proper catholic burial because supposedly Terri said that she wanted to be cremated.
I thinks that M.S. is trying to destroy evidence of his crimes.
-if there’s no body-there can be no autopsy.
What an evil, vile man.
After a couple of beers and in a slightly bemused and state of detachment from reality, I thought of what I would do if I were the father of Terri Schiavo.
Understand this is a statement of hypothetical ‘what ifs’ and ‘If I were her father’ type of statements, so you don’t have to call the FBI. I’m not even going to get out of my chair, much less go to Florida and mete out any particular brand of justice.
If I were Terri’s father, I would trade my freedom for my daughter’s life and pay for it with Michael Schiavo’s blood. Then my wife would become legal guardian and the tube could be re-inserted. Then I would write my book in prison to pay for all the rehab and medical costs for Terri.
Actually, I can’t think of a jury in this country that would convict me. My defense would be ‘I was preventing court-sanctioned execution by homicide under extreme duress’ (or whatever correct legalese that would get me off).
Now, this would make a good movie if the Schiavo situation wasn’t for real. But the soulless ghouls who will make all those ‘movies of the week’ with this story might want to know they will probably end up giving Hitler a spongebath in hell for capitalizing on someone else’s pain.
Yessss Vilmar ! And I just know that in liberal hollywood they probably already have the script written for this horror that has happened to Terri. They are more then likely just waiting for the final chapter. grrrrrrr
Makes my heart cry for Terri to see what has happened and is happening.
Oldcatman, I would not mind if Hollywood did a film showing Terri’s point of view and her parents point of view. But if history stays true to how Hollywood does things, I would have to think they will do it from the husbands point of view or at least favoring that jerk and that is going to be horrible.

...I’ve heard that Michael Schiavo is denying Terri final communion because it’s “by mouth”.
I heard this morning that She was given “Last rights” shortly (same day) after the feeding tube was removed,
Just another take on this. I am Canadian. Never would this issue ever, ever be made the subject of such public angst in this country. God Bless the USA! No matter what side or sides you may take on this, it demonstrates that the people’s passion is still as fervent as ever in a land that truly values free speech and expression.
Perhaps in some small way, Ms. Shaivo has contributed more to the freedom of expression in America than ever thought.
I do pray for her soul and ferventy trust that she will receive her Saviour in Heaven.
Her life has truly served us well.
Oldcatman, I did see Clint’s movie and it was excellent. A very well done film on a difficult subject.
