  1. Life of Brian. Someone was being repressed.

1979… I was at college… we (me, my roomate, and a couple of others) walked over to see the premier of Life of Brian.

    (note: this was BYU)

We had to carry my roommate out of the theater. He never stopped laughing after the Jerusalem Suicide Squad was shown clicking their heels during the song ‘Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life.’

Honestly, he was laughing so hard we thought of calling the ambulance.

  2. homosexuals are not bein’ repressed - “gay rights?” they certainly have the same rights we all have.  If you wanna talk about marriage, well, gays can get married the same as everyone else does - to a woman.  I refuse to bless their sodomy in the public square just the same as I don’t expect anyone to wanna listen to how me and my wife get it on in our bedroom!

As for Sir Elton, he hasn’t made a good song since he got off drugs.  There’s a line in “Yellow Brick Road” like “gonna need a few dexedrine tablets to get you on your feet again...”

Live8 end poverty? - read the bible. Jesus himself declared that the poor WILL ALWAYS BE WITH US.  Check it out - Matthew 26:11.
That’s why socialists and commies and their ilk WILL ALWAYS FAIL.

  3. #1.  I have never cared two cents for Elton John, and this is no encouragement to begin.

#2.  The Rent-A-Mob on parade.  Just a big party.  “We don’t do enough to help Africa?” If one in ten complainers could find Africa on the map, I’d be surprised.

#3.  This sitution bears watching.  I smell a trump card up someone’s sleeve.

#4.  A pity that income tax became established as a sign of “civilization.” I myself never accepted that.

#5.  A comet is a curious thing.  For the sake of science, this is worth trying.

#6.  Where are the lady mud wrestlers to complete the show?

  4. Thanks Christopher. Now I’m going to have that farggin song in my head all day-and I’m getting ready for church right now.
Yeeah. Thanks a lot. tongue wink

  5. 1) If Sir Elton feels so adamantly about this issue, he should give up living in the U.S. of A. and go back to Great Britain and fight for it!

    2) Supposedly, the only low-turnout venue was in Tokyo. No big deal. Problem is, it’s not the poverty in and of itself that’s the problem. Ask Kofi Annan!

    3) I don’t think President Bush will nominate AG Gonzales, he has too many potential recusals on upcoming cases where he advised the President. Perhaps he’ll throw us a curveball and nominate someone who’s already pissed off the Donks, like say, Justice Janice Rogers Brown!

    4) AND!...it’s at a FLAT TAX rate of 15%!

    5) Oh great, we’re now playing Asteroids!

    6) Yeeeeee-HAWWWWWWWWWWW!

  6. The “we’re being repressed” line was from Holy Grail.
“I thought we were an autonomous collective.”
“Come see the violence inherent in the system. Help, help, I’m being repressed.”

  7. You called me out, OCM.

What I was trying to get across is, whether you believe what Jesus said or not, the poor (have you met them? lovely people) are always gonna be around.  No matter how much you try to help by giving out money or jobs or whatever, there still gonaa be with us.  Chalk it up to karma, I guess.  I have no problem with live8 attempting to “end poverty” or “stamp out AIDS,” but I would suggest they take on some more modest, and achievable goals.  Jus’ mah 2 cents werf.

You are right about “if we spent our money more on poverty” we’d have LESS POOR PEOPLE. But why? Shouldn’t poor people have to work like me?  I mean income redistribution is inherently unfair. Forcibly taking money from me to give it to the other guy - if a small percentage of people generate the $$$ to feed and clothe another part of the population, I don’t think that’s a sound governmental policy - I think that’s called socialism and we did the experimentation already (thank God) and the results were not good ones.

We probably don’t exactly see eye to eye on this - but I’m sure we agree that poverty is a bad thing, and yes, some people end up poor through no fault of their own.  Others end up poor because of bad choices they knowingly made. The challenge of any democratic capitalist country is to balance welfare for the poor with fairness to those who work hard so that they can keep a good portion of what they’ve earned.

One of the best things we could do in this country to help the poor is crack down VERY hard on cocaine, heroin and crystal meth manufacturing and traffiking. That would entail building a wall along our southern and possibly northern borders to effectively STOP smuggling.  Legalization of pot would enable the police to concentrate more of their efforts on the real family killing, dream extinguishing substances.

your question re #5 was “what’ve YOU done lately for the poor?” well, probably more than your average Live8 concertgoer.  I give lots of money to my church - o.k. not “lots” but about 60 bucks a month.  A couple months ago, I bought lunch for a homeless guy that begs by the subway station I ride to and from work at. I plan on voluntering at a local charity that distributes food to needy families too.  I know, planning doesn’t mean shit, it’s the doing that matters.  Your comment has spurred me to get moving on this.

  8. There is no more male idea than to hurl a sattelite at a meteor and watch the explosion.  I wish I could get on one of their good telescopes to watch.
