  1. Hey Light Colonel: The problem isn’t the animals who attacked us: it’s their ideology which caused it in the first place. It’s the entire culture which has to be changed. This war won’t be over until that is destroyed. If the so-called “moderates” turn their Islamofascist brethren in, they might have a chance of surviving. Otherwise…
    ISLAM DELENDA EST.

  2. Army LTC, as you may have noticed in the last election conservatives and moderates (those you label “neo-cons") are not bending over for the Republican Party like the anti-war loons who are smothering the Democratic Party and literally driving it off the brink.

Was Iraq a mistake? I seem to remember dozens of UN resolutions over a twelve year period as Saddam stalled and continued to pose a threat to the region.

Putting that aside for a moment, what do you think Afghanistan would be like today if we HAD left Iraq alone and instead concentrated our efforts on that benighted country that has seen so much warfare, death and slaughter in the last thirty years? As a military man you should be able to remember that we used the Afghans to check Soviet expansion in Central Asia and when we were through with them we walked out on them, leaving the Taliban and Al-Qaeda to fill the void.

Are all current military officers as ignorant of recent history as yourself and Wes Clark? Afghanistan would now be Ground Zero for jihadis, suicide bombings, mass murders and possible insurrection within Pakistan - which just happens to be a nuclear power, by the way. Plus, we would have no direct route from the sea for logistical support other than by air over Pakistan, which would squeeze Musharif between us and his local radicals.

If you are still in the military you will never make field grade unless you read Sun-Tzu and Clauzewitz and pound it into your head that the first rule of warfare is to choose your battles and make the enemy fight on the ground of YOUR choosing - not his.

Or is military strategy beyond your comprehension?

  3. Retired Army LTC:

I find your signoff very hard to believe.  If you are a retired career Army officer, then you should know the value of Sun-Tzu, von Clauzewitz, and Mushai.  Your analysis is off base.  You put your opinion as fact and that is illogical reasoning.  I just pray you were not a combat arms officer as you probably would have gotten your troops killed by inaction.

Iraq was not a “low hanging fruit” as you put it.  Saddam had verifiable and identified links with Islamic terrorists.  Saddam was in pursuit of WMDs and there was a very good probability that he would have given WMD weapons to terrorists to be used around the world against the US, or most likely, Israel.

Now, you are entitled to your opinion, but when your opinion smells like the south end of a north bound mule, be prepared for rebuttal.  To call us traitors is indicative that YOU have not read the Constitution and do not know the legal definition of treason in the US.  Nothing said or done by “neo-cons” comes close to treason.  However, Howard Dean, John Kerry, Teddy Kennedy, General Clark and General Batiste have come VERY close to the definition of sedition.  I suggest that you review the facts before you embarrass yourself again.

I do not have any love most of the Republicans in government, but they are a darn sight better than the Democrats and their suggested options.  If we follow the path set by the Democrats, we will end up with the Iraqi people being brutalized like the Vietnamese people were after 30 April 1975.  Do you want their blood on your hands?  I do not relish that idea, nor do I relish the idea of US troops dying.  Fact is that we are there, and we need to finish it.

This comes from a retired USAF line officer, flew the F-4 Phantom in the Wild Weasel mission.  Look up that mission and then tell me about political pandering.
