  2. It’s not the moisture or the cleaning solution that gets to me. It’s holding onto the squeegee hour after hour after hour. They only weigh a couple of ounces; that’s not the issue. Even the scrubber weighs hardly half a pound. It takes a firm hand to use them properly, and eventually my muscles get tired.

And this place was foul. Really foul. I’ve never seen grime like this on windows before. The insides were fogged gray with some kind of sticky greasy grit, that wouldn’t come off. It was rough to the touch. I’m using the best professional window cleaning products available, but many of these windows required major scrubbing, double cleaning, and even softening/degreasing with an ammonia/alcohol/detergent spray (ie enhanced Windex) just to soften the goop. Do that on a french paned double hung, where each part has 12 panes and the whole thing has storm windows - 52 glass panel surfaces per window - and that adds up to a boatload of work. And then after I got them clean I had to go back and do the scraping on them, to get off the paint and varnish splatters that the renovators had left. And of course these windows are 100 years old, made with “B” grade glass to begin with.

I love doing commercial glass. It’s so easy. You get one great big window 15 feet wide. Zip, done.
