I.M. Stupid, PostMaster General, continues to miss the obvious:
“Meanwhile, the cheaper standard mail — mostly advertising — has been rising and now exceeds first-class mail by almost 5 billion pieces a year. But standard mail is less than half as profitable to the Postal Service as first-class mail.”
Dur, get rid of discount pricing for junk mail. That would raise your profit per letter ratio immeasurably and reduce the amount of mail sent by at least a third. Aren’t you getting tired of paying more and more money to support annoying advertisers? At least 2/3 of all the mail I get is junk that goes straight into the recycling.
Anyone try to find some 2 cent stamps to go with the old 39 cent stamps? The post office
lobby machines don’t have them. You can order them online from usps.com and pay a shipping and handling fee of course, plus wait 3-5 days for delivery. Or, you can stand in line for 1/2 hr at the local p/o to be growled at by a grumpy gummint gimp that can’t to do anything more productive.For letters over one ounce, the old rate was 24 cents per extra ounce, and they still sell those stamps, but the new rate is only 17 cents for the extra ounce effective 5/14, however the new 17 stamps will not be available until at least 5/21 according to the usps store.

Yepper - for years we have tried (Direct Mail, opt out -etc) to STOP the junk mail extravaganza to us. And now the beast that the PO itself could have helped control is now going to kill them (plus the rise of UPS, Fed Ex, DHL) - competition kills the bureaucrat every time. Bet now there is going to be legislation that every American company is going to be forced to use X% of their shipping/mailing via the PO to keep it floating.
I am however, among the few who do not nor ever will pay online - so I must go and hunt down some 2 cent stamps. Oh well.
You can whine all you want but it is still the cheapest postal service in the world.
AND the most efficient.
You may address your hate mail to our official BMEWS postal worker, Christopher. He’s hanging around here somewhere. Give him some love and ask him to explain how the USPS can charge more for doing less work.
Because we can Skipper. That’s what being a monopoly is all about. And I still give good service. In spite of the Post Office. The PMG sucks. Doesn’t know squat about mail delivery.
Somebody once calculated that a 1 cent increase in gas prices cost the PO 1 million dollars. You may have noticed that gas has gone up far more than a penny.
